LOCATION:  Salisbury, Maryland Corps

POSITION:  Corps Director of Development I

POSITION TYPE:  full-time, exempt

PAY RATE:  $61,000 - $65,000

 

This position is responsible for:

Creating and overseeing the implementation of a strategic approach to increase fundraising results through major gifts, corporate donations, grant solicitation, direct mail, special events, community relations and in-kind resources.

Key Responsibilities:

ANNUAL FUND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

  • By February 15th each year create a fund development plan in consultation with the Corps Officer and Divisional Development Director (DDD) that includes an individual goal for the development director and sets specific goals and strategies for appropriate development disciplines that will increase revenues to support the strategic direction of the organization; plan is submitted to the Corps Officer for approval and processing though the DDD for DFB for approval. Implement the approved fund development plan in accordance with ethical fundraising principles.
  • By the 15th of each month, evaluate and report to the Corps Officer on all fundraising activities to ensure that the fundraising goals are being achieved.
  • In collaboration with the Corps Officer develop and maintain the Community Relations & Development Committee, the Marketing and Public Relations Committee and the Bequest and Endowment Committee of the Advisory Board.
  • Actively support and cooperate with the divisional Planned Giving and Resource Development program representatives.
  • Monitor trends in the community or region and adapt fundraising strategies as necessary.
  • Cultivate existing funding resources and research and secure new funding opportunities for the command.
  • Manage and provide oversight over the three (3) major annual fundraising events (Golf tournament, Annual Dinner, and Kettle breakfast).

ORGANIZE FUND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

  • Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fund-raising processes are carried out in a timely manner.
  • Develop procedures for the development department which reflect ethical fundraising practices.
  • Prepare and submit grant applications as outlined in the development plan.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of special fundraising events as specified in the development plan.
  • In cooperation with the Regional Resource Development Director and Corps Officer, identify and develop a personal portfolio of at least 20 corporate, community and/or individual prospects that will be put into a moves management system that the development director manages.
  • Meet or surpass an annual fundraising goal from major gift efforts that is established by the Corps Officer and approved by the Divisional Finance Board.
  • In cooperation with the Regional Resource Development Director, manage a portfolio of the top 10 prospects and donors for the Corps Officer’s involvement.
  • In cooperation with the Regional Planned Giving Director staff the Bequest and Endowment Committee of the Advisory Board.
  • Increase overall revenue on an annual basis as established in the annual fund-raising plan.
  • Oversee the administration of a donor mailing list and Inter-Change which respects the privacy and confidentiality of donor information.
  • Work with direct mail vendors on all aspects of direct mail, set up annual calendar of mailings, review appeals and ensure timely processing of approvals from the Corps Officer, provide monthly direct mail reports and provide analysis on the direct mail program.
  • Have a strong working knowledge of InterChange, personally enter the recording of all gifts and donor interactions in a timely and proper manner.
  • Manages the acknowledgement program to provide a high level of donor relations.
  • Coordinate in-kind donations and make decisions regarding the issuing of receipts.
  • Manage the United Way application process and follow up processes according to policy.

STAFF FUND DEVELOPMENT ACTIVITIES

  • Engage volunteers for special fund development projects using established volunteer management practices.
  • Assist the Corps Officer in staffing the Advisory Organizations.

MANAGE FUND DEVELOPMENT BUDGET

  • By February 15th each year develop and submit to the Corps Officer an annual revenue and expenditure budget for the fund development program.
  • Monitor expenses and analyze budget reports on fund development and recommend changes as necessary.

PUBLIC RELATIONS

  • Foster an understanding of philanthropy within the organization.
  • Develop a comprehensive communication and marketing plan to promote the organization and maximize public awareness of the fundraising activities of the organization and of the value of Family Thrift Store.
  • Coordinate the design, printing and distribution of marketing and communication materials for development efforts in accordance with the communications and marketing plan.
  • Produce an annual report by February 15th of each year.
  • Build relationships with community stakeholders to advance the mission and fundraising goals of the organization.
  • Produce and distribute a minimum of 12 press releases in accordance with the communications and marketing plan.
  • Manage the Corps website and social media program.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Limited amount of physical effort required associated with walking, standing, lifting, and carrying light objects (less than 25 lbs.).
  • Work may be performed in an office environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like but not limited to the office environment.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR IN YOU

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university; and three (3) years of experience in a comprehensive development program with progressively responsible experience and demonstrated success;OR any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS

  • Valid Driver’s License is required.
  • Certified Fund-Raising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset.
