Job Title: Automation Engineer V(Job ID: 73534-1)
Pay Rate: Market Rates on hourly W2
Duration:12+ Months
Location:Menlo Park, CA or New York, NY
Summary:The main function of an Automation Engineer is to design, program, simulate, and test automated technology and processes in order to carry out specific tasks. The typical Automation Engineer is responsible for detailed design specifications and other documents in the process of creation.
Typical Day in the Role:This role owns the path from trained model to reliable on-robot execution: standing up and maintaining a humanoid robot platform, building and owning the deployment pipeline from model checkpoint to real-time control on hardware, and running the sim-to-real loop that closes the gap between trained behavior and physical performance. The role also supports an external hardware collaboration, acting as the technical owner on our side.
Job Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and test the manufacture of automated equipment.
- Evaluate the cost effectiveness, reliability, and safety of certain design models.
- Estimate time and cost to complete projects.
- Simulate and test machine, structure, and system operation.
- Investigate and test vendors' and competitors' products.
Required Skills:
- Creativity, verbal and written communication skills, analytical and problem-solving ability.
- Team player and detail-oriented.
- Ability to make sketches, engineering drawings, and common computations.
- Ability to perform detailed calculations to compute and establish manufacturing, construction, and installation standards and specifications.
- Ability to apply principles of automated theory to engineering projects.
- Previous experience with computer applications and design software related to the engineering field.
Education / Experience:Bachelor's degree in Engineering required.
Top Must-Have:BS/MS in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent hands-on industry experience.
Good-to-Have Skills:
- Direct experience with commercially available mid-size or full-size humanoid platforms.
- Whole-body control, locomotion, or manipulation stacks.
- Experience as the technical point of contact in a cross-organization or vendor hardware collaboration.
- Teleoperation, motion capture, or data collection rigs for robot learning.
- Experience diagnosing hardware failures and managing repair/spares logistics.
Story Behind the Need – Business Group & Key Projects:
- Hands-on deployment of learned policies to physical humanoid or legged robots, including bring-up, calibration, and ongoing maintenance.
- Real-time robot control and low-level integration (ROS/ROS2, onboard compute, sensor and actuator interfaces).
- Sim-to-real transfer, including domain randomization and policy validation in simulation before hardware rollout.
- Python and C++, with PyTorch for model inference on embedded or onboard hardware.
- Robot safety practices for operating full-size hardware around people.
Interview Process:
- Round 1: CWAM Interview (30 mins, Zoom)
- Round 2: IC Technical Discussion (30 mins, Zoom)
- No coding assessment.
