Job Summary

Barnes & Noble is the leading book retailer in the United States, with roots dating back to 1873 and a long history of growth through innovation and expansion. Today, under CEO James Daunt and private ownership by Elliott Advisors, Barnes & Noble operates approximately 700 bookstores nationwide, serves over 700 communities across all 50 states, and maintains a robust digital presence through BN.com, NOOK® eBooks and audiobooks, and educational resources such as SparkNotes. The company also includes complementary retail brands such as Paper Source, Books Inc., Tattered Cover, and B. Dalton, further strengthening its market reach. Following a period of revitalization, Barnes & Noble is experiencing strong momentum, with plans to open approximately 60 new stores in 2026, underscoring renewed confidence in physical retail and local bookselling. Combining expansive store networks, curated selections, enhanced in-store experiences, and growing omnichannel capabilities, Barnes & Noble remains the #1 bookseller in the U.S. and a trusted, evolving partner within the publishing and retail ecosystem.

We're seeking a Copywriter to join our team! The Copywriter is responsible for creating compelling, accurate and engaging copy that brings the Levenger brand and its products to life across print and digital channels.

This is a hands-on writing role for someone who loves language, understands how good writing connects a customer to a product, and can move comfortably between storytelling and selling. The Copywriter will develop product descriptions and marketing copy for catalog, web, email, digital advertising and other customer-facing communications while maintaining the distinctive Levenger brand voice.

Because Levenger serves readers, writers and lifelong learners, this role requires more than strong commercial writing skills. The ideal candidate is well read, intellectually curious and comfortable with literary, cultural and historical references. They should have an appreciation for books, writing, language and the analog experience that is central to the Levenger brand.
The Copywriter must be highly organized and able to manage multiple assignments and deadlines in a fast-moving retail environment.

Job Responsibilities
• Write compelling product descriptions for new and existing products across catalog and digital channels.
• Develop copy for catalogs, email campaigns, website features, landing pages, digital advertising and other marketing initiatives.
• Translate product features, materials, craftsmanship and benefits into clear and persuasive customer-facing language.
• Develop product names, headlines, promotional messaging and supporting copy as needed.
• Maintain consistency with Levenger's established brand voice and editorial standards.
• Research products, materials, literary references, historical context and other subjects necessary to create accurate and interesting copy.
• Work closely with Merchandising, Product Development, Creative, E-Commerce and Marketing to gather information and understand the story behind each product.
• Review and proof copy for accuracy, grammar, clarity and consistency.
• Incorporate feedback efficiently while maintaining the quality and integrity of the final copy.
• Manage multiple assignments simultaneously and consistently meet established deadlines.
• Support packaging, care cards, collateral and other special copy projects as needed.

Qualifications:
• Bachelor's degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Marketing or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3+ years of professional copywriting experience, preferably for a consumer, retail, publishing or lifestyle brand.
• Demonstrated ability to write compelling product and marketing copy for both print and digital channels.
• Exceptional writing, editing, grammar and proofreading skills.
• Strong command of the English language and an excellent ear for tone and voice.
• Broad familiarity with literature and books and a genuine interest in reading, writing and ideas.
• Ability to research unfamiliar subjects and quickly turn information into engaging, accurate copy.
• Strong organizational skills and demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
• Ability to collaborate effectively while also working independently and taking ownership of assignments.

Success in this role means producing consistently strong, distinctive Levenger copy on deadline. The Copywriter should quickly develop a command of the Levenger voice, understand what makes our products special and communicate that difference with clarity, intelligence and warmth.
