POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Community School Director, the Coordinator of Work-Based Learning (WBL) Initiatives develops, coordinates, and evaluates work-based learning experiences that prepare students for postsecondary education, careers, and the workforce. The Coordinator serves as the primary liaison between students, school staff, employers, families, and community partners to ensure students participate in meaningful career-connected learning opportunities while meeting program, school, and grant objectives. The Coordinator also works directly with students to assess career interests and readiness, provide career guidance and coaching, and facilitate placement in employment, internships, volunteer opportunities, job-shadowing experiences, and other work-based learning activities that support students' academic and career goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Duties and responsibilities include but not limited to:
- Provide individualized career exploration, coaching, and workforce readiness support to students, including assistance with resume development, interview preparation, job search strategies, and professional skill development.
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and continuously improve the Work-Based Learning (WBL) program in alignment with organizational, school, and grant requirements.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with employers, community organizations, workforce agencies, and postsecondary institutions to identify, secure, expand, and coordinate employment, internships, volunteer, job shadowing, workplace visits, career-connected learning opportunities, and other work-based learning opportunities for students
- Assess students' interests, skills, and career goals and connect them to appropriate employment, internship, volunteer, and other work-based learning opportunities.
- Monitor and support students throughout their work-based learning placements, maintaining regular communication with students and site supervisors to ensure successful participation and achievement of learning objectives.
- Track student placements, participation, outcomes, and partner engagement activities, and prepare reports as required by school, program, and grant requirements.
- Facilitate career readiness and certification instruction, including resume writing, mock interviews, workplace professionalism, communication, employability skills, OSHA, Food Handler, and other industry-recognized credentials.
- Conduct employer outreach, internship site visits, and ongoing communication with students and employer partners to monitor progress, provide support, and address workplace concerns.
- Collaborate with school administration, counselors, teachers, special education staff, families, and community partners to promote equitable access, student success, and alignment between career goals and academic planning.
- Assist students in applying for external Work-Based Learning opportunities, including SYEP and other workforce development programs
- Maintain accurate program records; track student participation, worksite evaluations, certifications, and program outcomes; prepare required reports; and ensure compliance with organizational, school, and grant requirements.
- Develop measurable student learning objectives, assess program effectiveness, and use data to drive continuous improvement.
- Participate in team meetings, professional development, school events, and perform other duties as assigned.
Related-Certification Class Instruction
- Review and evaluate curriculum for related certification classes such as OSHA and Food Handler.
- Develop curriculum for both general-related and specific-related instruction; link efforts with other career and technical education staff to provide specific-related instruction.
- Develop outcome-based, measurable student objectives.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor's Degree required.
- 2-3 years of experience working with youth.
- Certifications (e.i OSHA + Food Handler Certified) preferred but not required.
- At least three (3) years' experience working with adolescents in an urban environment, providing services that reduce barriers and facilitate educational success and social-emotional well-being.
- At least three (3) years' experience providing outcomes-oriented supervision and professional development to a team of youth development specialists.
- Demonstrated ability to establish strong rapport with youth populations and their families.
- Familiarity with various test prep and social-emotional learning curricula.
- Familiarity with NYS high school graduation requirements and experience with the college application and financial aid application processes.
- Bilingual is a plus.
