Pay Rate: Up to $120,000/year; Based on experience
Location: Capital Region, NY /Hybrid – 1–3 days/week onsite
Employment Type: Full-Time / Direct Hire

Experience: 5+ years in a Controller or comparable senior-level financial role
Required: Demonstratednonprofit accounting experience
Skills: Nonprofit GAAP, fund accounting, grant reporting, financial reporting, audits, advanced Excel
Software: QuickBooks, Sage products, ERP systems, cloud-based tools
Travel: Must be able to travel to clients throughout the Capital Region; must reside within 60 miles of Albany

Our growing client is seeking aController with a nonprofit focus to provide experienced financial leadership to multiple mission-driven organizations. This role partners withexecutive leadership, finance committees, and boards to strengthen financial reporting, compliance, internal controls, and financial operations. The Controller will also work alongside CFOs and accounting teams to improve processes and provide practical financial guidance across multiple client organizations.

Responsibilities of the Fractional Controller will include:

• Review financial information and data entry foraccuracy and completeness.
• Manage and complete themonth-end close process.
• Record recurring journal entries, includingpayroll and depreciation.
• Reconcilebalance sheet accounts.
• Develop and produceclient-focused financial reports.
• Develop and maintain13-week cash flow forecasts.
• Identify accounting inefficiencies and implementaccounting best practices.
• Supervise and support both internal and client accounting staff.
• Develop and refineworkflow processes.
• Support CFOs withbanking relationships and loan acquisition needs.
• Managenonprofit fund accounting, including restricted and unrestricted funds.
• Supportgrant tracking, reporting, and compliance.
• Ensure compliance with requiredfiling deadlines and regulatory submissions.
• Managesales tax exemption requirements and related compliance.
• Prepare financial reports forboards and finance committees.
• Assist withaudit preparation and auditor coordination.
• Ensure adherence toGAAP for nonprofit accounting.
• Provide support to third-party CPA firms as needed.

Qualifications for the role of Fractional Controller:

• 5+ years of experience in a Controller or comparable senior-level financial role.
• Nonprofit accounting experience is required.
• Strong understanding ofnonprofit GAAP and fund accounting.
• Working knowledge ofnonprofit compliance, including filing deadlines and sales tax obligations.
• Experience withaudits, grant reporting, and board financial reporting.
• Ability tocoach and mentor staff.
• Ability to managemultiple clients and competing priorities.
• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills required.
• Experience withQuickBooks, Sage products, and ERP systems, with the ability to adapt to different client systems.
• Experience withsystem implementation is a plus.
• Strong technology skills and comfort withcloud-based tools.
• CPA is a plus.
• Exceptionalinterpersonal and client service skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong commitment toconfidentiality and promptness.
• Ability to travel to clients throughout theCapital Region and reside within 60 miles of Albany.
