The Construction Estimator will work closely with engineering, project management, sales, production, design, finance, and customers to review construction documents, perform material takeoffs, prepare accurate project estimates, and help move projects from quotation through production and delivery.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, comfortable interpreting construction drawings, and able to communicate effectively with both internal departments and customers.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Perform detailed structural material takeoffs for multi-family and wood-framed construction projects.
  • Review and interpret structural and architectural plans, drawings, specifications, and project documents .
  • Calculate material quantities and prepare accurate estimates for customer quotations and production requirements.
  • Enter takeoff information into estimating systems and distribute completed estimates and quotations to customers and contractors.
  • Organize, coordinate, maintain, and track project quotes in collaboration with the sales team.
  • Work closely with sales representatives to ensure quotations are completed accurately and delivered within required timelines.
  • Assist sales personnel with pricing information and estimating details needed to secure projects.
  • Communicate with customers regarding quotations, pricing, material quantities, and estimate-related questions.
  • Provide clear explanations and supporting information regarding pricing and material takeoffs when necessary.
  • Coordinate with production and shipping departments to support customer delivery expectations and project schedules.
  • Collaborate with the design and engineering teams to resolve material, hardware, drawing, or specification questions.
  • Work with finance and management to resolve discrepancies involving material takeoffs, pricing, additional material requests, or customer concerns.
  • Identify opportunities to improve estimating procedures, workflows, documentation, and overall operational efficiency.
  • Participate in weekly coordination meetings with estimating, design, purchasing, production, and other departments to establish project priorities and shipment schedules.
  • Create, maintain, and update spreadsheets, estimating forms, reports, tracking documents, and project records.
  • Maintain accurate and organized documentation for active and completed estimates.
  • Perform additional estimating and project support responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Required

  • Ability to read, interpret, and understand structural and architectural construction plans .
  • Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail and commitment to producing accurate estimates.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects, deadlines, and priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office , particularly:
    • Microsoft Excel
    • Outlook
    • Word
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally with customers, contractors, sales representatives, engineers, production personnel, and management.
  • Self-motivated, energetic, and comfortable taking ownership of assignments.
  • Strong commitment to customer service and customer satisfaction.

Preferred

  • Previous construction estimating or material takeoff experience .
  • Experience working within the construction, building materials, lumber, framing, structural components, or manufacturing industries .
  • Experience estimating multi-family or wood-framed construction projects .
  • Familiarity with PlanSwift or comparable construction estimating/takeoff software .
  • Bachelor's degree or other four-year college degree preferred.
