The role:
This position supports ODOT’s mission by helping build a safe and reliable transportation system. In this role, you’ll play a key part in ensuring projects are constructed with high quality and that public funds are used responsibly. You’ll assist the resident engineer with administering construction contracts in alignment with applicable standards and proactively resolving construction issues to keep projects moving smoothly.

A day in the life:
- Establish and maintain responsible and positive relations with contractors and their representatives.
- Assure that plans and specifications are adhered to by the contractor through monitoring inspectors and survey crews.
- Accept or reject contract work or material on the basis of established standards and specifications.
- Review contractor’s project schedule to determine if it is reasonable and meets specifications.
- Initiate, negotiate, prepare and review proposed CCO’s, EWO’s and SFO’s.
- Prepare and recommend project budgets, crew budgets and project and crew manpower based on projections and reports.
- Assist in contract administration functions including assuring quality and quantity documentation.
- At least 50% of the work is performed outdoors and requires working in inclement weather, close to highway traffic or construction equipment and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Requires lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, moving around uneven terrain, overnight travel, working long hours and being on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week including holidays.

Minimum qualifications:
Four years of experience in the field of engineeringin construction inspection, surveying and/or permitting
OR
An associate degree in the field of engineering(civil or transportation-related) and two years of engineering technician experience
OR
A bachelor’s degree in the field of engineering(civil or transportation-related) and one year of engineering technician experience
OR
An equivalent combination of experience, education, and training.
Note:Related experience, education, and training can include, but is not limited to construction management, forestry, geography, geology, geomatics, mathematics, physics, remote sensing and/or urban planning.
Special qualifications:
Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid U.S. driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

- Experience in construction inspection and contract administration - Highway preferred.
- Experience interpreting construction plans and specifications.
