Position Summary:Â
The Commodity Operator is a member of the Operations Team reporting directly to the Superintendent of Operations and Operations Supervisors/Shift Leaders. The Commodity Operator is accountable and responsible for the movement of seed and meal between inbound trailers and containers to silos and storage buildings. The commodity operator is also responsible for loading outbound trucks.Â
Key Responsibilities:
- Transfer seed and meal between trailers, containers, and storage buildings.
- Load seed and meal into outbound trailers.
- Pull samples from trailers and containers for Quality Control testing.
- Follow commodity SOPs to ensure proper procedures are followed.
- Complete meal blending to meet customer specifications.
- Operate a front loader to measure and load seed and meal into designated trailers, containers, and buildings.
- Operate a container top-pick to remove and place shipping containers on required chassis.
- Move trailers and containers using a yard hostler truck.
- Maintain a clean, safe, and food-safe work environment while following PPE and safety requirements.
- Report accidents, incidents, and near misses and participate in audits, safety meetings, and tailgates.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- 3–5 years of processing equipment operations experience.
Skills and Competencies:
- Ability to speak, read, and write English to communicate effectively, complete required documentation, and follow safety and quality procedures.
- Intermediate-level proficiency with general computer applications.
- Ability to safely operate processing and material-handling equipment.
- Ability to clearly communicate with coworkers and management.
- Ability to follow established SOPs, safety procedures, and food safety requirements.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Ability to climb stairs and ladders.
- Willingness and ability to work overtime during the week, weekends, and/or holidays as directed by management.
Certifications/Licenses:
- Must be forklift operator certified or able to obtain certification.
- Must be yard hostler certified or able to obtain certification.
- Valid driver's license and ability to meet company driving standards.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience operating a front loader, container top-pick, or yard hostler.
- Experience with seed, meal, grain, or other commodity handling operations.
Working Conditions:
- Work requires climbing stairs and ladders.
- Ability to work in all weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds on a regular basis.
- Work may require overtime during the week, weekends, and/or holidays based on operational needs.
- Work involves operating heavy equipment and moving trailers and containers.
- Must follow food safety, PPE, and workplace safety requirements.
