About the Role
We are looking for a hands-on Manufacturing Automation & Machine Vision Engineer to drive engineering improvements at our capsule manufacturing site in Sagamihara. In this role, you will work directly with production operators, maintenance technicians, process engineers, and global engineering teams to solve manufacturing problems and improve the performance of production and inspection systems. A key focus of the role is the development and continuous improvement of automated visual inspection systems. You will work across software, image processing, equipment integration, and manufacturing data to improve inspection capability, product quality, productivity, and equipment reliability. This is not a purely IT or software development role. We are looking for an engineer who is comfortable going to the shop floor, understanding the actual problem, developing a practical technical solution, implementing it, and verifying the result.

What You Will Do
Develop and improve automated visual inspection and machine vision systems used in capsule manufacturing.
Develop and enhance inspection-system user interfaces and application software, primarily using C# and related technologies.
Develop, modify, and optimize image-processing and inspection functions for detecting defects and improving inspection performance.
Integrate inspection systems with manufacturing equipment, factory management systems, databases, and other data systems.
Acquire, analyze, and utilize inspection and manufacturing data to identify opportunities for quality and productivity improvement.
Investigate abnormal inspection results, equipment/software issues, and performance degradation, and identify root causes and effective countermeasures.
Work directly with production and maintenance teams to understand shop-floor problems and translate them into practical engineering solutions.
Support the introduction, commissioning, validation, and continuous improvement of new inspection and manufacturing equipment.
Improve the reliability, maintainability, and usability of existing inspection systems and software.
Evaluate and introduce new technologies such as image processing, AI, data analytics, and automation where they provide meaningful business value.
Collaborate with global engineering, R&D, IT, and external equipment suppliers on technical projects and new technology introduction.
Document solutions, operating methods, and technical knowledge so that improvements can be sustained and standardized.
What We Are Looking For
Essential Qualifications
Bachelor's degree or higher in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
2+ years of hands-on engineering or software development experience.
Practical programming experience using one or more of the following- C# ,C++ , C, Python, WPF, Python.
Practical experience in at least one of the following areas:
Machine vision / computer vision
Image processing
Automated visual inspection
Industrial automation or manufacturing equipment
Software development for manufacturing systems or inspection equipment
Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on approach to investigating and resolving technical issues.
Ability to communicate effectively in Japanese in a manufacturing environment, including technical discussions with production operators, maintenance technicians, engineers, and other local stakeholders.
Experience withOpenCV, OCR, image analysis, image recognition, or inspection algorithms or industrial cameras, image acquisition, lighting, lenses, or other machine-vision components.
Experience integrating software withPLC, sensors, cameras, motion systems, or other industrial equipment.
Experience withSQL / SQL Server and manufacturing or inspection data.
Experience withMES, SCADA, Historian, or other manufacturing data systems.
Experience with AI/ML applied to image recognition or anomaly detection.
Experience working with external equipment suppliers and managing technical implementation.
Experience in a regulated manufacturing environment such as pharmaceutical, medical device, food, or other high-quality manufacturing industries.
Experience working in a global or multinational organization.
Ability to communicate in English with global colleagues and technical partners.
