The Assistant Vice President, Data & Analytics is responsible for leading CNA Canada's analytics strategy and delivery, ensuring data-driven insights support business performance, decision-making, and strategic priorities. This role serves as the primary liaison between business leaders, Technology, and Global Data & Analytics teams to translate business needs into actionable analytics solutions and measurable business outcomes.
The AVP is accountable for analytics prioritization, roadmap development, stakeholder engagement, adoption, and value realization while promoting a culture of data-driven decision making across the organization.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Performs a combination of duties in accordance with departmental guidelines:

  • Develop and execute the Canada Data & Analytics roadmap aligned with business strategy and enterprise priorities.

  • Build strong relationships with business leaders to understand priorities, identify opportunities, and ensure analytics solutions address key business challenges.

  • Lead intake, prioritization, and governance of analytics requests, balancing business value, resource capacity, and enterprise alignment.

  • Define, monitor, and communicate key business metrics, performance indicators, and analytics outcomes.

  • Partner closely with DASH, Global Data & Analytics, and business stakeholders to align Canada's analytics strategy, priorities, and outcomes with enterprise objectives while ensuring local business and regulatory requirements are effectively addressed.

  • Lead the adoption, maturation, and utilization of the enterprise Analytics Spoke Network model within Canada, ensuring alignment with global analytics standards, operating models, and delivery practices while addressing unique Canadian business needs and priorities.

  • Work in close collaboration with Finance and Actuarial teams in Canada to ensure consistency of Data and regulatory responsibilities are completed

  • Champion a Global approach, leveraging existing enterprise tools, data assets, and solutions before building locally.

  • Drive adoption and value realization of analytics products, dashboards, reporting solutions, and data-driven insights.

  • Lead the development and application of advanced analytics, data science, predictive modeling, and research methodologies to identify opportunities, improve business performance, and support strategic decision-making.

  • Foster a culture of experimentation, evidence-based decision making, and analytical rigor through the application of statistical analysis, research techniques, and data modeling practices.

  • Guide the evolution of Canada's analytics capabilities beyond reporting and business intelligence toward predictive, prescriptive, and AI-enabled decision support.

  • Provide strategic guidance on data, analytics, reporting, automation, and AI opportunities that improve business performance and operational efficiency.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a high-performing Canadian analytics team while effectively leveraging and managing global analytics partners, shared services, and enterprise capabilities to deliver best-in-class analytics outcomes for Canada.

  • Establish an operating model that balances local accountability with enterprise collaboration to maximize value realization and delivery effectiveness.

  • Serve as an active member of the Global Analytics Leadership Team, contributing to enterprise strategy, capability development, governance, prioritization, and the advancement of analytics practices across the organization.

  • Ensure effective stakeholder communication, change management, and transparency from request through delivery.

Skills, Knowledge & Capabilities

  • Strong knowledge of data analytics, business intelligence, reporting, and data-driven decision making.

  • Ability to translate business challenges into analytical solutions and actionable insights.

  • Experience developing analytics roadmaps, prioritizing work, and managing stakeholder demand.

  • Strong business acumen with the ability to influence decisions across multiple business functions.

  • Excellent relationship management, communication, and presentation skills.

  • Proven leadership capability with experience developing high-performing teams.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

  • Knowledge of data governance, data quality, and performance measurement frameworks.

  • Deep understanding of data science, statistical modeling, advanced analytics, AI-enabled decision support, performance measurement frameworks, and modern analytics platforms.

  • Ability to manage competing priorities within a complex, matrixed environment. 
     

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Analytics, Operations Research, Economics, Actuarial Science, Business, or a related quantitative discipline.

  • Advanced education in Data Science, Analytics, Research, Statistics, or a related field is considered an asset.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience in Data & Analytics, Business Intelligence, Product Management, Technology, or a related discipline.

  • Minimum 7 years of leadership experience leading teams and strategic initiatives.

  • Experience partnering with senior business leaders to define and deliver data and analytics solutions.

  • Experience developing performance metrics, reporting frameworks, and analytical insights that support business decisions.

  • Insurance, financial services, or other data-intensive industry experience preferred.

  • Experience with data visualization and analytics platforms such as Power BI, Tableau, Looker, ThoughtSpot, or similar tools preferred
