About the Company
An established, family-owned precision manufacturing company with more than 50 years of experience is seeking a skilled quality professional to join its team. The company provides precision CNC machining, custom metal fabrication, prototyping, small-batch production, and assembly services for customers in aerospace, defense, medical, and semiconductor markets.
The shop specializes in complex geometries, challenging materials, and tight-tolerance components. Its manufacturing capabilities include multi-axis CNC milling and turning, supported by CMM inspection and other precision measurement equipment. Projects range from individual prototypes to ongoing production, giving the quality team exposure to a variety of parts and customer requirements.
This position offers the opportunity to take a hands-on role in inspection while helping coordinate quality control activities and working closely with machinists and production personnel.
Position Overview
The company is seeking an experienced quality professional with strong CMM programming skills and hands-on machine shop experience. This position combines dimensional inspection, CMM programming, and day-to-day coordination of quality control activities.
The shop uses a Mitutoyo CMM with CMM Manager software. CMM Manager experience is preferred, but candidates with strong PC-DMIS or Calypso programming experience are encouraged to apply. The company is open to supporting an experienced CMM programmer's transition to CMM Manager.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop, troubleshoot, and maintain inspection programs for a Mitutoyo CMM using CMM Manager.
- Perform first article, in-process, and final inspections of precision-machined components.
- Interpret engineering drawings, customer specifications, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
- Select appropriate inspection methods, part setups, and measurement tools to verify dimensional requirements.
- Prepare accurate inspection reports and maintain quality records.
- Work closely with machinists and production personnel to investigate dimensional issues and resolve nonconforming parts.
- Coordinate daily inspection priorities to support production schedules and customer requirements.
- Help improve inspection procedures, measurement consistency, and overall product quality.
- Hands-on inspection experience in a precision machine shop.
- Strong CMM programming experience with CMM Manager, PC-DMIS, or Calypso.
- Ability to independently develop and troubleshoot CMM programs.
- Strong understanding of engineering drawings, GD&T, and tight-tolerance inspection.
- Experience using precision measuring tools, including micrometers, calipers, height gauges, and indicators.
- Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and clear communication.
- Ability to work independently and collaborate with shop personnel.
- Willingness to learn CMM Manager if coming from another software platform.
- Direct experience programming with CMM Manager.
- Experience operating and programming Mitutoyo CMM equipment.
- Previous experience as a lead inspector, quality supervisor, or quality control manager.
- Familiarity with first article inspection documentation, quality management systems, and corrective action processes.
