We’re looking for an experienced and forward-thinking Cloud Platforms Lead to shape the future of cloud infrastructure, platform engineering and developer services across E.ON UK. You’ll play a pivotal role in building the technology foundations that help our engineering teams innovate faster, work smarter and deliver brilliant customer experiences.
Leading a team of Engineering Managers and more than 15 Cloud, DevOps and AI Platform Engineers, you’ll set our long-term platform strategy, champion developer experience and ensure our cloud environments are secure, reliable and cost-effective. From multi-cloud infrastructure and self-service developer tools to AI platforms and cloud optimisation, you’ll combine technical expertise, strategic thinking and people leadership to make a real impact across our business.
Here’s a taste of what you’ll be doing
- Lead, coach and develop our Engineering Managers, building a high-performing platform engineering team with a strong focus on career development, collaboration and inclusion.
- Define and own our multi-year platform strategy across cloud infrastructure, developer tooling, CI/CD, AI platforms and cloud cost optimisation.
- Champion developer experience by delivering self-service tools, automated developer portals and reusable templates that help engineering teams build, test and deploy products more efficiently.
- Drive platform reliability, security and operational excellence, managing technical debt, incident response and performance across our cloud environments.
- Partner with Security and Architecture teams to strengthen cloud security, identity and access management, compliance and Zero Trust capabilities, while ensuring we get the best value from our cloud investment.
- Influence at executive and Group level, shaping technology strategy, managing budgets and vendor relationships, and driving collaboration and continuous improvement across engineering teams.
Are we the perfect match?
- You have significant engineering experience, including a proven track record of leading engineering leaders, developing Engineering Manager talent and building high-performing teams.
- You have a deep understanding of cloud platforms, multi-cloud architecture, platform engineering and developer experience, with experience across technologies such as AWS, GCP or Azure.
- You’re experienced in defining long-term technology roadmaps, building scalable platform capabilities and making strategic decisions around technology investment and supplier partnerships.
- You’re a confident and credible leader who can influence senior stakeholders, communicate complex technical concepts clearly and connect platform strategy to business outcomes.
- You understand modern engineering practices, including Infrastructure as Code, GitOps, CI/CD, cloud security and FinOps, with the commercial awareness to manage budgets, cloud spend and resources effectively.
It would be great if you had
- Experience building Internal Developer Platforms using tools such as Backstage, alongside golden paths, self-service cloud tooling and reusable CI/CD pipelines.
- Hands-on experience with cloud-native infrastructure, Kubernetes, Terraform, serverless technologies and GitOps tools such as Argo CD or Flux.
- Knowledge of AI and GenAI platforms, including AWS Bedrock, GPU infrastructure or AI-powered developer tools, and how these can accelerate engineering productivity.
- Experience implementing Zero Trust security, identity and access management, automated compliance and cloud cost optimisation across complex environments.
- A track record of driving platform transformation and building inclusive engineering cultures where teams feel empowered to experiment, collaborate and continuously improve.
