Job Summary:
The Cloud Engineer I is an entry-level position responsible for assisting in the administration, deployment, and optimization of the organization's cloud infrastructure, primarily within Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS). This role supports the stability, security, and efficiency of cloud-based resources, working under the guidance of more experienced engineers. The ideal candidate will have foundational knowledge of cloud platforms, basic technical skills, and a strong desire to learn and grow in a cloud engineering role.
Key Responsibilities:
Cloud Administration:
● Assist in managing and supporting Microsoft Azure and AWS cloud environments, ensuring they operate smoothly and meet organizational requirements.
● Support the configuration and maintenance of cloud resources, including virtual machines (VMs), storage accounts, and networking components.
● Help implement and manage basic security policies, roles, and permissions within Azure and AWS to maintain a secure cloud environment.
● Assist with administering Microsoft Windows Server and Azure Active Directory within cloud environments.
Cloud Deployment and Troubleshooting:
● Support the deployment of applications and services to Azure and AWS environments, helping to ensure smooth transitions from development to production.
● Assist in troubleshooting cloud-related issues, working to provide timely resolutions under the guidance of senior engineers.
● Help execute backup and recovery procedures in alignment with the organization's disaster recovery plans.
Automation and Optimization:
● Learn and assist in developing automation scripts using tools such as PowerShell to streamline cloud operations and reduce manual tasks.
● Support efforts to monitor cloud usage and costs, contributing to the implementation of optimization strategies to maintain performance and control expenses.
System Integration and Documentation:
● Assist in the integration of on-premises and cloud-based systems, ensuring connectivity and functionality across platforms.
● Help create and maintain documentation of cloud configurations, processes, and procedures to support operational continuity and knowledge sharing.
Performance Monitoring and Improvement:
● Assist in monitoring cloud infrastructure performance, identifying areas for potential improvement under the guidance of more experienced team members.
● Learn to analyze existing cloud systems to identify opportunities for efficiency, scalability, or security enhancements.
Qualifications:
Education & Experience:
● Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
● 0-5 years of experience in cloud engineering, IT infrastructure, or a related field, with a basic understanding of Azure and AWS environments.
Skills:
● Cloud Platforms: Foundational knowledge of Microsoft Azure and Amazon Web Services, with a desire to gain proficiency in managing and deploying cloud resources.
● Operating Systems: Basic experience with Windows Server and/or Linux operating systems, particularly within cloud environments.
● Networking: Introductory knowledge of networking protocols, including DNS, DHCP, and VLANs, as they relate to cloud infrastructure.
● Automation and Scripting: Willingness to learn and develop skills in automation tools and scripting languages, such as PowerShell, to automate cloud tasks.
● Security: Understanding of basic cloud security principles and a desire to learn more about role-based access control (RBAC) and network security groups (NSGs).
● Performance Monitoring: Interest in learning about cloud monitoring tools and techniques to ensure the availability and performance of cloud services.
