Cloud Database & Backup Engineer – SQL/PostgreSQL/Rubrik

About The Job:

• We are seeking a skilled and proactive Cloud Database & Backup Engineer with expertise in Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, and Rubrik backup solutions.
• The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing, optimizing, securing, and supporting enterprise database platforms across cloud and hybrid environments while ensuring robust backup, recovery, and disaster recovery capabilities.
• This role requires strong hands-on experience in database administration, performance tuning, backup and recovery management, automation, and cloud infrastructure support.

Essential Job Functions:
Database Administration

• Administer, monitor, and maintain Microsoft SQL Server and PostgreSQL database environments.
• Perform database installation, configuration, patching, upgrades, and migrations.
• Ensure database availability, reliability, performance, and security.
• Support HA/DR solutions including Always On Availability Groups, replication, clustering, and PostgreSQL streaming replication.
• Conduct database capacity planning and growth forecasting.

Performance & Optimization

• Analyze and resolve database performance issues.
• Optimize queries, indexes, stored procedures, and database configurations.
• Monitor database health and establish proactive performance baselines.
• Implement tuning recommendations to improve application performance.

Backup & Recovery Management

• Manage enterprise backup and recovery operations using Rubrik.
• Configure and maintain backup policies, SLAs, archival, and retention requirements.
• Perform backup validation and recovery testing.
• Execute database restoration activities during incidents and DR exercises.
• Ensure compliance with RPO and RTO objectives.

Cloud Database Operations

• Support databases hosted in AWS, Azure, and hybrid environments.
• Manage cloud-native database services where applicable.
• Automate provisioning, monitoring, and routine operational activities.
• Participate in cloud migration and modernization initiatives.

Security & Compliance

• Implement database security best practices including access controls, encryption, and auditing.
• Conduct vulnerability assessments and remediation activities.
• Ensure compliance with organizational, regulatory, and governance requirements.

Monitoring & Automation

• Configure and maintain monitoring tools for databases and backup infrastructure.
• Develop and maintain automation scripts using PowerShell, Bash, Python, or SQL.
• Reduce operational effort through process automation and standardization.

Incident & Change Management

• Participate in incident troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
• Support change, release, and maintenance activities.
• Maintain operational documentation, SOPs, and recovery procedures.

Qualifications:
Required Qualifications

• Exp – 10 to 12 years
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, or related field.
• 4-8+ years of experience in Database Administration and Backup Management.
• Strong experience administering Microsoft SQL Server environments.
• Strong experience with PostgreSQL database administration.
• Hands-on experience with Rubrik Backup & Recovery platform.
• Experience supporting cloud environments such as Azure and/or AWS.
• Strong understanding of backup, restore, replication, high availability, and disaster recovery concepts.
• Experience with database monitoring and performance tuning.
• Knowledge of scripting and automation (PowerShell, Python, Shell scripting).
• Familiarity with ITIL-based operational processes.
