Position: Clinical Research Coordinator II

Department: Research - GIM

Location: Boston, MA

Schedule: 20 hours per week (transitioning to full time in April, 2027), Hybrid


POSITION SUMMARY:


The CRC II will be responsible for day-to-day coordination and supporting overall management of activities related to Dr. Wurcel’s research portfolio.This includes grants and other administrative projects focused on improving health care delivery and advancing public health, with particular emphasis on infectious disease prevention (e.g., HIV prevention and increasing PrEP uptake) and substance use. Projects will span a variety of settings, including carceral, hospital, and community-based environments, and will involve supporting research activities, project coordination, and other administrative needs across these initiatives.

Functions include the training and supervision of research staff, managing research databases for regular reporting on enrollment and study progress, serving as study liaison with the IRB, and supporting financial management for the project, including purchasing needed supplies and equipment. Support data collection and recruitment activities, grant preparation, quality control, preparation of research reports and presentations, and more. Must be able to work independently and make sound judgment with study protocols, data evaluation, and recruitment strategies.


This will start as a part-time role that moves to full time in April 2027. The role is based in Boston with potential for some occasional travel. This role will be considered hybrid with required in-office time at BMC.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • The CRC II will be responsible for assisting the PIs/senior project manager in recruitment, hiring, training, and supervision of research staff.
  • Responsible for personnel administration functions including preparing evaluations, tracking hours worked, vacations, leaves of absence, collecting time sheets, submitting hours to payroll, and scheduling of shifts and meetings.
  • Tracks research assistant certifications, NIH trainings, and continuing education for direct reports.
  • Assures adherence to study protocols, policies, procedures, and human subjects regulations.
  • Oversee work of research assistants and supports management of all study activities.
  • Responsible for purchase orders, invoices and tracking budget items. Assist in creating and maintaining study budgets.
  • Liaisons with Institutional Review Board (IRB) to facilitate approval of projects, ongoing documentation and reporting.
  • Assists with new grant proposal development, and preparation of research reports and presentations.
  • Provides assistance in the development of reports, presentations, and data analysis. Assists in data collection and recruitment and provides feedback on study’s progress.
  • Perform administrative duties associated with the study’s safety monitor, tracking and reporting adverse events and collecting data specified by the lead site. Responsible for all other administrative duties related to research activities.
  • Participates and leads staff meetings/initiatives including appropriate quality improvement and education activities, or if unable to attend non-mandatory activities, accepts responsibility to review meeting minutes and becomes knowledgeable of issues discussed.
  • Throughout project duration, the research coordinator will plan, track, and report on project tasks, responsible parties, timelines, etc.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with research team and collaborators (e.g. meeting minutes, scheduling, booking).
  • Maintain electronic and paper study binders to ensure compliance with applicable regulations.
  • Assist with patient interactions as needed (patient recruitment, completing informed consent, studyvisits).
  • Schedules meetings involving the director, departmental staff, and individuals from other agencies.
  • Support maintenance of Supervisors’ CV’s, bibliographies, and related documents as needed.

JOB REQUIREMENTS


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

CRC II: Experienced Level Position

  • Master’s DegreeOR
  • Bachelor’s Degree plus 2-5 years of experience
  • Special Intermittent Project Responsibilities (2-5 per year)

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:


  • Experience in a clinical research setting highly desirable. 
  • Experience working with individuals with substance use disorders also strongly preferred.
  • Experience doing lab research is desired but can also be learned early on in the position and is not required at the time of hire.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:


  • Must be detail oriented and have the ability to follow-through.
  • Excellent organization and communications skills required. Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize workload. Must practice discretion and adhere to hospital confidentiality guidelines at all times.
  • Strong interpersonal skills; ability to effectively interact with all levels of staff and externals contacts.
  • Previous experience with grant preparation, IRB submissions, data management, and database development preferred.
  • Excellent English communication skills (oral and written).
  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial and ethnic populations.
  • Knowledge of and skill with using MS Office applications, database systems, and Internet. Experience using quantitative data analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS, Minitab)is desirable.Analytical skill and ability to resolve technical problems and interpret acceptability of data results.

Compensation Range:

$20.43- $28.61
