About the Firm
Wiss Private Client Advisors, LLC is an AI-enabled multifamily office within an accounting firm, with approximately $2 billion in assets under management and advisement (AUM/AUA). Tax is at the center of what we do. We integrate investment management with tax and broader wealth planning, working closely with advisors and accounting professionals to serve clients. We use outsourced investment managers across our portfolios, making manager selection, coordination, and ongoing oversight central to our investment approach.About the Role
We are seeking a client-facing Client Portfolio Manager with at least seven years of relevant experience to evaluate existing portfolios, construct allocations using outsourced managers, lead manager due diligence and investment committee meetings, and speak directly with clients. This is a hands-on, in-the-weeds role. The Client Portfolio Manager will personally review underlying holdings, perform portfolio analysis, prepare performance write-ups, investigate discrepancies, and follow approved changes through execution. The role requires knowing what clients own, why they own it, how holdings work together, and how taxes affect decisions and outcomes, while maintaining timely, detailed oversight as our client base grows.
Client Relationships and Investment Communication
- Lead investment discussions with clients and prospects, connecting recommendations to their goals, liquidity needs, risk tolerance, and tax circumstances in partnership with financial advisors.
- Explain holdings, positioning, performance, fees, and risks in plain language. Address detailed questions and proactively communicate material developments and recommended changes.
Portfolio Evaluation and Performance Tracking
- Personally perform detailed reviews of current and prospective client portfolios using portfolio analytics, research, and performance reporting tools. Assess allocation, underlying holdings, manager overlap, concentration, liquidity, costs, and tax exposure.
- Track portfolios against client objectives, approved allocations, restrictions, and appropriate benchmarks. Identify drift, emerging risks, and issues requiring action.
- Prepare clear performance write-ups explaining returns, key contributors and detractors, benchmark differences, manager results, and implications for portfolio positioning. Investigate data discrepancies before communicating conclusions.
- Maintain a consistent review schedule and track recommendations, decisions, and implementation through completion as the number of client portfolios grows.
Portfolio Construction and Tax Integration
- Construct and refine portfolios using outsourced managers and strategies, coordinating asset allocation, manager selection, cash needs, and rebalancing across client accounts.
- Understand and evaluate tax-focused portfolios, including tax-managed SMAs, tax-loss harvesting, asset location, embedded gains, turnover, and the tax costs of portfolio transitions.
- Assess investment recommendations on an after-tax basis, balancing tax efficiency with diversification, risk, liquidity, and client objectives. Coordinate with advisors, tax professionals, and managers on client-specific tax considerations.
- Determine which securities and tax lots to sell, and from which accounts or entities, to fund quarterly estimated tax payments and other cash needs. Align sales with each client's estate and tax structure, ownership arrangements, cost basis, realized gains and losses, and portfolio objectives; coordinate execution with advisors, tax professionals, trading, and outsourced managers.
Manager Research and Due Diligence
- Lead initial and ongoing due diligence on outsourced managers and strategies, evaluating philosophy, holdings, risk management, performance, fees, tax management capabilities, organizational stability, and adherence to mandates.
- Maintain direct manager relationships, challenge explanations when warranted, and document recommendations to approve, retain, monitor, or replace strategies.
- Coordinate with SMA managers and internal teams to improve implementation, reporting, information sharing, and execution of client restrictions and portfolio changes.
Investment Committee Leadership
- Run investment committee meetings on a regular cadence, preparing agendas, research, portfolio reviews, and actionable recommendations on allocation, managers, market developments, and risk.
- Document decisions and rationale, assign action owners and deadlines, and track completion. Communicate approved changes to advisors, trading, operations, and client service.
- Review investment analysis and client materials for accuracy and insight, and help develop junior team members' investment knowledge.
- Proactively identify and implement efficiencies in portfolio reviews, research, reporting, and manager coordination. Use technology, automation, and AI tools to support a growing client base while maintaining accuracy and sound investment judgment.
Qualifications:
- Minimum seven years of relevant investment experience, including portfolio construction or management, outsourced manager due diligence, and direct client interaction.
- Demonstrated understanding of tax-focused investing and the ability to evaluate portfolio decisions and manager strategies through an after-tax lens.
- Proficiency with portfolio analytics, performance reporting, investment research tools, and Excel; ability to turn detailed analysis into clear written commentary and client conversations.
- Experience leading investment committees or substantial responsibility for committee research, recommendations, and follow-through.
- Strong judgment, attention to detail, and organization. Ability to prioritize reviews, meetings, and follow-up across a growing client base without sacrificing accuracy or responsiveness.
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or a related field. A master's degree in finance, CFA designation, and experience at an asset management firm are pluses.
- Knowledge of AI and its practical application to investment research, portfolio analysis, reporting, and workflow improvement is a plus.
