Claims Assessor - Personal Injury Management

ICBL is Barbados’ largest general insurance provider, writing business in all areas of general insurance including, Property, Liability, Accident, Motor, Marine, Aviation and Transit Insurance. ICBL also offers insurance coverage for Group Life, Group Health and Individual and Group Pensions.

We are recruiting a Claims Assessor – Personal Injury Management, who will serve as a key front-line representative within our Personal Injury Management Sub-Unit. This role is critical in setting the tone for delivering on our commitment to exceptional service to our insureds in relation to personal injury claims. The successful candidate will be responsible for supporting the administration of claims and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of claims data across the team.

The position is at the level of Grade 6 in the Company’s compensation structure and will report to the Team Leader - Claims Service or designate.

Main Areas of Responsibility

• Settles claims promptly and equitably including generating payment requisitions to facilitate claim payments.
• Establishes, recommends and maintains appropriate reserves for both indemnity and expense and reviews on a regular basis to ensure adequacy, within prescribed settlement authority.
• Analyses, investigates and evaluates the loss to determine policy coverage.
• Evaluates facts supplied by investigation to determine extent of liability of the insured, if any, and extent of the Company’s obligation to the insured under the policy contract.
• Identifies and evaluates potentially fraudulent claims and claims abuses and report findings to management.
• Identifies and communicates specific claim trends and policy issues to management and underwriting.
• Ensures that manual and computer records are accurate and reflecting any changes made in a clear and precise manner including all changes made to reserving.
• Performs other related duties as assigned and necessary for the advancement of the Insurance Corporation of Barbados Limited.

Qualifications, Experience and Skills:

• University Degree in Business Studies or related discipline.
• Two to three years’ experience in Personal Injury Management, Employer’s Liability and Public Liability claims handling would be an asset.
• Knowledge of the principles of insurance, in particular, utmost good faith, insurable interest, proximate cause, indemnity, subrogation, contribution and can apply them to complex situations.
• Knowledge of different levels of motor and casualty insurance cover.
• Full knowledge of litigation process and apply proactively to avoid litigation and contain cost and leakage.
• Ability to make accurate, consistent liability decisions.
• Ability to accurately value quantum on injury claims.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to prioritise workload.
• Strong customer service and communication skills that demonstrate professionalism.
• Proficient computer skills – MS Office etc.
