Senior Civil Engineering Technologist – Municipal Infrastructure

A well-established Canadian, employee-owned engineering and consulting firm is seeking aSenior Civil Engineering Technologist to join its growing Linear Municipal Infrastructure team in Calgary or Edmonton.

This is a newly created position offering an excellent opportunity for an experienced civil engineering technologist to contribute to significant municipal infrastructure, land development and transportation projects.

The successful candidate will bring strong technical design capabilities, particularly inAutoCAD Civil 3D, along with experience preparing engineering drawings, servicing plans, grading designs and construction documentation.

The Role

The Senior Civil Engineering Technologist will work closely with engineers, project managers and other technical professionals to deliver municipal infrastructure, land development and transportation projects.

The position focuses onhands-on civil engineering design and drafting, including water distribution systems, sanitary sewers, stormwater management, drainage, roadways and underground servicing.

The successful candidate will play an important role in preparing technical designs and construction documentation while contributing to project coordination and mentoring junior technical staff.

Key Responsibilities

Civil Engineering Design & Drafting

• Prepare preliminary and detailed civil engineering designs usingAutoCAD Civil 3D.

• Develop engineering drawings for municipal infrastructure, land development and transportation projects.

• Prepare water distribution, sanitary sewer and stormwater servicing plans.

• Produce grading plans, roadway profiles and cross-section drawings.

• Develop design drawings for new developments, municipal infrastructure rehabilitation and reconstruction projects.

• Support functional and detailed design of roads, water mains, sewer systems and drainage infrastructure.

• Ensure engineering drawings comply with applicable municipal and provincial standards.

Technical Documentation & Project Delivery

• Prepare and review technical calculations and supporting engineering documentation.

• Develop stormwater and sanitary sewer design tables.

• Assist with functional servicing reports and volume calculations.

• Prepare construction tender documentation and technical specifications.

• Complete quantity takeoffs and assist with construction cost estimates.

• Prepare traffic control plans and review shop drawings.

• Coordinate technical deliverables with engineers, project managers and subconsultants.

• Participate in project meetings and technical design reviews.

• Provide on-site technical support when required.

Team Collaboration & Mentorship

• Work collaboratively with engineers, technologists and other multidisciplinary project team members.

• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior technologists and drafting staff.

• Support the training and professional development of less experienced team members.

• Contribute to technical problem-solving and design improvements.

• Maintain current knowledge of engineering software, municipal standards and industry best practices.

• Participate in professional associations and continuing education opportunities.

Qualifications

• Approximately10+ years of relevant civil engineering technology experience.

• A diploma in Civil Engineering Technology is considered an asset.

• Registration as aCertified Engineering Technologist (CET) orCertified Technician (CTech), or eligibility for registration within six months, is an asset but not mandatory.

• Previous experience in consulting engineering, municipal infrastructure or land development is preferred.

• Strong proficiency inAutoCAD and Civil 3D.

• Experience preparing functional and detailed civil infrastructure designs.

• Good understanding of municipal and provincial engineering standards.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

• Ability to manage multiple assignments and work effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
