Job Description
The University of Nevada, Reno Extension is seeking an organized, service-oriented professional to join the Carson City/Storey County Extension Office. Located in Carson City, Nevada, this position provides essential administrative, financial, program, and customer service support that helps Extension deliver research-based education and resources to Nevada communities.
The Administrative Assistant 3 plays an important role in coordinating daily office operations and supporting Extension faculty, staff, programs, and activities. This position is well suited for someone who enjoys working with people, maintaining organized processes, and contributing to a community-focused organization.
Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Coordinating the day-to-day administrative operations of the Carson City/Storey County Extension Office
- Supporting budget monitoring, financial recordkeeping, purchasing, travel, and other fiscal processes
- Maintaining accurate program, financial, and administrative records
- Providing administrative support for Extension programs, events, and activities
- Assisting with program marketing, promotion, and outreach
- Responding to questions and providing professional assistance to community members, partners, employees, and office visitors
- Supporting other office and program needs as assigned
What We’re Looking For
The successful candidate will be organized, dependable, and comfortable balancing multiple responsibilities in a public-facing office. Strong customer service, communication, recordkeeping, and financial administrative skills will contribute to success in this position. The ideal candidate will also be able to work collaboratively, exercise sound judgment, maintain accuracy, and provide responsive support to a variety of individuals and programs.
Essential Qualifications
- Graduation from high school or equivalent education and three (3) years of progressively responsible relevant work experience which included experience in one or more of the following areas: maintenance of complex records and files; public/customer relations including explaining detailed policies, regulations and requirements; preparation and processing of financial and statistical documents such as payroll, travel, claims and budgeting forms; and assisting staff and management with projects and activities;OR
- One (1) year of experience as an Administrative Assistant II in Nevada State service;OR
- An equivalent combination of education and experience as described above
Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with any of the following are encouraged to apply:
- Experience providing administrative support in a higher education, government, nonprofit, or public service environment
- Experience with budget tracking, financial recordkeeping, purchasing, travel processing, or other fiscal support functions
- Experience coordinating or supporting educational programs, events, workshops, or community outreach activities
- Experience maintaining electronic records, databases, and filing systems with a high degree of accuracy
- Demonstrated ability to organize work, manage multiple priorities, and meet deadlines with limited supervision
- Experience providing responsive customer service to diverse audiences in a public-facing office environment
- Experience handling confidential or sensitive information with sound judgment and discretion
Schedule
The typical work schedule is Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm; this is subject to change based on organizational needs.
Compensation Grade
Grade 27
In classified service, salary is in Grade and Step. The Step is determined based on the Nevada Administrative Code. Salary placement above a Step 01 at initial appointment is determined based on the recruitment, the candidate’s qualifications, internal equity, and budgets. A request to accelerate salary must be approved by Human Resources and abide by the Nevada Administrative Code.
