Who you are: 

As a member of CIRA’s policy and advocacy team, you’ll develop and advocate for policy positions that promote a trusted internet. You geek out about internet policy here in Canada and can’t wait to share the latest global developments with the team. 

As Senior Internet Policy Analyst, you’ll be part of a small team responsible for CIRA’s engagement with government officials and other stakeholders in pursuit of CIRA’s domestic and global internet policy agenda. You’ll work across product areas, teams and global regions to advance CIRA’s positions and bring external perspectives back into the organization. You’ll proactively identify emerging issues, assess their relevance to CIRA and develop recommendations to help shape CIRA’s policy and advocacy approach. 

What you'll do: 

• Track and analyze regulatory, legislative and other policy issues in Canada and beyond for their relevance and potential impact on CIRA.
• Conduct policy research and jurisdictional scans to inform CIRA’s positioning on domestic technology policy issues.
• Proactively identify emerging policy issues and developments that may impact CIRA and recommend potential areas for action or engagement.
• Research and develop briefing materials, key messages and presentations as required to support CIRA’s engagements.
• Engage with policy-makers and other stakeholders on matters relevant to CIRA’s business and operations, including cybersecurity and internet infrastructure.
• Act as a bridge between technical collaborators and non-technical stakeholders inside and outside of CIRA.
• Support thought leadership activities, including reports, conferences, speaking opportunities and op-eds, to advance CIRA’s position as an industry leader.
• Develop clear, evidence-based policy recommendations and advice to help shape CIRA’s positions and advocacy strategies.
• Advise CIRA leaders, ensuring they have the right information and a solid understanding of risks and opportunities to make sound decisions.
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to provide insight and expertise on thought leadership and advocacy issues. Build alignment around policy recommendations and approaches where appropriate. 

What you bring: 

• 5-8+ years of experience working within government, think tanks, advocacy organizations, technology companies or relevant industry associations.
• Experience working with government and/or international internet policy stakeholders.
• Familiarity with emerging domestic and global internet and technology policy issues.
• Curiosity to dig deeper into an issue and connect the dots between external developments and internal impacts.
• Sound judgment and strong policy instincts, with the ability to quickly identify what matters and distinguish signal from noise.
• Ability to work independently, proactively identify priorities and move work forward with limited direction.
• Comfort and confidence engaging with senior leaders and external stakeholders.
• Experience advising and collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders on policy strategies, with the ability to translate complex issues for a broad range of audiences.
• Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to research and synthesize issues while balancing speed and depth.
• The ability to juggle and prioritize multiple simultaneous projects and competing deadlines while collaborating with internal and external stakeholders and subject matter experts.
• Eligible to register as a lobbyist under the Lobbying Act.
• Fluency in French will be considered an asset.
