Position Description

The McGill University Department of Medicine, Division of Respiratory Medicine in the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences invites applications for a full-time Contract Academic Staff position as a Clinician-Teacher at the rank of Assistant Professor (Clinical) based at St. Mary’s Hospital Centre. This will be a Contract Academic Staff position and does not confer eligibility for tenure. This position is conditional on the Institution successfully obtaining a PEM (i.e. physician permit) for this position.

Job Duties

The successful candidate will be appointed to clinical practice in the Department of Medicine, Division Respiratory Medicine at Saint-Mary’s Hospital Centre.

As a Clinician-Teacher, your major non-clinical focus will be on teaching the next generation of physicians, including both didactic and clinical teaching. 

Clinical duties will include regular scheduled outpatient clinics and in‑patient care, including participation in the on‑call rotation as a respiratory consultant and supervision of learners on the Internal Medicine clinical teaching units. Outpatient activities will include participation in a rapid investigation service and the management of sleep disorders. Academic responsibilities will include active participation in the Faculty’s core teaching programs.

The successful candidate will also be expected to be actively involved in all aspects of McGill’s academic mission (i.e., research, teaching, supervision of graduate students and residents, and involvement in academic and administrative committees).

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Candidates must:

• Hold an MD or MDCM degree and be eligible for licensure in the province of Québec.
• Have completed subspecialty training in Respiratory Medicine (Pulmonology).
• Be certified by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (or equivalent).
• Be certified by the Collège des médecins du Québec.
• Have completed at least one additional year of advanced clinical and/or research training, including training in endobronchial ultrasound–guided sampling (EBUS).
• Have completed advanced training and demonstrated competence in invasive pleural procedures.
• Have completed, or be currently enrolled in, a Master’s degree (or equivalent) in Medical Education, with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing an academic career focused on teaching.
• A clinical interest in interstitial lung disease will be considered an asset.
• Demonstrate proficiency in English and French, or a commitment to acquiring the language skills necessary to practice medicine in Québec; candidates must be able to interact effectively in both languages with patients, families, and health‑care professionals.
