Title: Child & Family Outreach Specialist

Location:Child & Family - 1954 SE 182nd Ave, Portland, OR 97233

Schedule: This is an in person position, Monday through Friday, 9:00am - 5:30pm; Occasional evenings and weekends required depending on program needs.

Wage Range:$26.00 – $29.00 hourly, non-exempt

Position Overview:

The Child & Family Outreach Specialist provides outreach, education, peer support, and engagement services to children, youth, and families in school and community settings. This position promotes awareness of mental health services, behavioral health resources, and available supports while helping reduce barriers to care through education, systems navigation, and community engagement. The Outreach Specialist works collaboratively with youth, families, schools, Tribal communities, and community partners to increase mental health awareness, reduce stigma, promote social connection, and connect children, youth, and families to needed services and resources.

 

What you will do:

  • Conduct outreach activities in schools, community settings, and Tribal communities to increase awareness of mental health services, behavioral health resources, and community supports.

  • Provide mental health education and resource education to children, youth, families, and community members to increase awareness of available services and supports.

  • Provide peer support services using lived experience, culturally responsive practices, and strengths-based approaches.

  • Reduce stigma related to mental health challenges through outreach, education, open conversations, and community engagement activities.

  • Build and maintain relationships with students, families, school personnel, Tribal partners, and community organizations to promote behavioral health access.

  • Assist children, youth, and families in identifying needs, navigating service systems, and accessing behavioral health, educational, social service, and community resources.

  • Facilitate or support youth engagement activities, wellness groups, community events, and other opportunities that promote social connection, community building, and mental health awareness.

  • Commutes to various locations as is needed by the program.

  • Transports clients and family members to needed appointments both within NARA NW and to appointments outside of NARA NW.

  • Provides trainings and education as well as social, cultural, and/or therapeutic groups to promote mental health awareness and wellness.

Qualifications

We would like to hear from people that have:

  • Either High School Diploma or General Educational Development (GED) certification required.

  • Current Oregon Traditional Health Worker (THW) Peer Support Specialist or Peer Wellness Specialist certification.

  • Valid driver's license, proof of auto insurance, access to reliable transportation, and ability to meet NARA NW's driver eligibility requirements.

  • Proficiency with basic computer applications and electronic documentation systems.

  • Must pass a pre-employment or for cause drug tests.

  • Must pass criminal background and DMV checks.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One (1) year of experience providing peer support, outreach, community engagement, or behavioral health support services.

  • Experience working with children, youth, and families.

  • Experience working within the Native American/Alaska Native community.

  • Experience collaborating with schools, community organizations, or social service providers.
