Responsibilities

  • The Chief Officer Safety is in charge of maintenance and upkeep of all life-saving and fire-fighting equipment, safety training of all ship’s Crew Members, shipboard safety training records, Assembly List and coordination of lifeboat certification. 
  • Provides professional and social guidance to subordinates by exemplary personal behaviour. 
  • Accountable for fulfilling SOLAS Chapter III, Regulations 18-25. 
  • Maintenance and upkeep of life-saving and fire-fighting equipment, including operation of fire dampers, in partnership with Engineering. 
  • Assists the Staff Captain in all SMS related matters.
  • Assists the Staff Captain in keeping the AMOS system updated in regards to all safety and fire fighting equipment.
  • Maintenance of shipboard safety training records. 
  • Maintenance of the Assembly List. 
  • Coordination of lifeboat certification. 
  • Maintenance of damage control and equipment. 
  • Issue QM Safety & Security Work Assignment Schedule and Safety Drill / Training Schedule. 
  • Sees that all safety equipment is up to date. 
  • Organizes and conducts the passenger emergency assembly drill and the Crew emergency and lifeboat drills. 
  • Sees that the entire Crew is trained in general emergency procedures and their assembly duties. 
  • Sees that personnel files for the positions under them in the chain of command are maintained (working with HR Manager) 
  • Monitor compliance with the procedures in SMS 3 App. 1, Ship wide OG on Shipboard Rules for Cast, Vendors, and other Third Parties. 
  • Tactical on-scene commander in any emergency situations in accommodation to Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan. 
  • Updates the safety files and certificates and keeps the Staff Captain informed. 
  • Trains the First, Second, and Third Officers in their safety duties. 
  • Assigns qualified Crew Members to Safety Numbers on the Assembly 
  • List as required for the Assembly Station Emergency Function Plan. 
  • Sees that all safety signs are installed throughout the ship. 
  • Sees that an adequate number of Crew has their survival craft certificates and monitors their training. 
  • Writes a monthly safety report and handles USCG issues after inspection and reports this to the Staff Captain. 
  • The Chief Officer Safety is expected to keep abreast of the latest in safety regulations and the development of lifesaving equipment and makes appropriate recommendations for improvement. 
  • Other duties as assigned by the Master or Staff Captain 
  • Emergency Duties as specified in the ship’s Assembly / Emergency Function Plan

Additional Information

This is a SHIPBOARD role. 
You must: 
  • Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel 
  • Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan 
  • Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control 
  • If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations 
Your Responsibilities: 
  • Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this) 
  • Complete a pre-employment medical 
  • Obtain a criminal background check 
  • Bring approved work shoes 
**Disney Cruise Line is a drug-free workplace. All new hires are required to undergo drug/alcohol testing within the first week onboard and throughout their contracts. Failure to pass the drug/alcohol testing will result in immediate termination.
