TheResearch Area Scientific Lead – Oncologyis responsible for working across Abcam’s global R&D platforms on technical evaluation, planning, troubleshooting and quality control for our new product development pipelines, ensuring we make the best–performing products for customers working in oncology research. The role is also responsible for managing product development collaborations with a global network of researchers. The major focus will be on our antibody-based portfolio, but the role will work across all product platforms including our proteins and cell engineering.
This position reports to theHead of New Product Development, Research Areas and is part of the Research and Development teamlocated inCambridge, UKand will be an on-site role. Â
In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Supportnew antibody discovery projects working closely with global R&D and Product Portfolio colleagues to establish, manage, and troubleshoot the development of new products to guarantee their successful delivery and highest product quality and performance. Â
- Providescientific and technical expertise across the business to represent the needs of our customers working in the field of oncology. Work cross-functionally as thescientific lead on implementation ofnew technologies orprocess improvementsto support those customers.
- Setproduct quality and performance standards for our portfolio of products (such as antibodies, ELISA kits, proteins and cell lines), working collaboratively with our R&D teams globally. Ensure that appropriate validation methods are in place to support new product development.
- Build and manage productivecollaborations with scientists and Key Opinion Leaders from academia and industry and establish ascientific network in the research communities we are serving.
- Support effectivemanagement and visibility of our product developmentpipeline and track progress against strategy, working closely with Product Managers and wider R&D teams.
The essential requirements of the job include:
- Significant research experience with a PhD in oncology and post-doctoral experience (or equivalent) in the oncology field, with experience working across both academic and industry settings.
- A strong proteomic technical skill set with hands-on experience in using techniques such as immunohistochemistry, flow cytometry, western blotting, immunocytochemistry and ELISA; as well as a strong core cellular and molecular biology skillset.
- Significant experience with antibodies and the capacity to interpret and analyse scientific data.Â
- The ability to show technical leadership and collaborate with multiple teams. You will be highly organised, independent, energetic, proactive, a strong team player and influencer.Â
- Being comfortable working in a fast-moving environment, adapting to deadlines and prioritising different aspects of your role to meet the needs of the business.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
- Developing and characterising antibodies.
- Working within a commercial setting and/or project management experience.
- Collaborating across organisations
