DPW Driver / Heavy Equipment Operator

The Town of Carlisle is seeking qualified applicants for positions within the Department of Public Works (DPW) to perform manual and skilled labor in support of construction, maintenance, and repair of the Town’s public ways, parks, drainage systems, and other municipal infrastructure.

Candidates who possess a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) may be hired as a Driver/Operator/Laborer, and candidates who possess both a CDL and Hoisting Engineer License may be hired as a Heavy Equipment Operator/Laborer.

Typical duties include manual labor and equipment operation related to roadway maintenance, drainage work, snow plowing and sanding, brush and tree cutting, mowing, street repair, and other Public Works activities.

Licensing

• A Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required for Driver/Operator/Laborer and Heavy Equipment Operator positions.
• A valid 2B Hoisting Engineer License is required for Heavy Equipment Operator positions.

Hoisting licenses in Massachusetts are issued by the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety.

Candidates must successfully pass a background check and pre-employment physical and drug screening.

Position Classifications

Driver / Operator / Laborer (CDL required)
Operates trucks and light equipment including dump trucks, plow trucks, and sanding vehicles, and performs manual labor on Public Works projects.

Grade 4 – Hiring range $27.57 - $28.13

Heavy Equipment Operator / Laborer (CDL + 2B Hoisting License required)
Operates heavy motor equipment including backhoes, loaders, and other construction equipment and performs manual labor on Public Works projects.

Full-time 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, with overtime and emergency response required during snow and weather events.
