Senior Software Engineer

Great ranking is what turns a search into a find.

A shopper finding the right product immediately is a strong signal. But retailers also want to inspire discovery, increase product exposure, andshowcase more of their assortment, and help shoppers discover relevant products beyond their initial search. Balancing those goals is one of the challenges you’ll help us solve.

Our ranking engine is built in-house. It analyzes large product catalogs and behavioral datasets while returning results in tens of milliseconds.

About the role

As a Senior Software Engineer in Ranking & Recommendations, you’ll together with the team own the logic that determines what shoppers see - and in what order - across product recommendations and personalized rankings in Voyado’s Product Discovery Engine.

Day to day, you’ll combine hands-on development with system-level thinking. You’ll connect algorithmic improvements to the wider product: response times, downstream systems, testability, rollout strategy, and measurable customer value.

Some of the things you’ll be up to

• Build and evolve ranking capabilities and the production services that power them, primarily in Java and partly in Python

• Design and fine-tune algorithms for personalized ranking and product recommendations

• Build systems that combine behavioral, customer-provided, and other ranking signals dynamically

• Design, run, and evaluate A/B tests

• Automate test flows

• Contribute to architectural decisions and the team’s technical roadmap

• Evaluate how new capabilities affect latency, scalability, reliability, and surrounding systems

• Turn technically complex features into clear, testable increments that can be brought to market

So, who are you?

You’re an experienced software engineer who enjoys algorithmic problems but naturally looks beyond the algorithm itself. You think about how a change behaves as part of a larger production system - and what it means for performance, testing, maintainability, and customer value.

You bring architectural experience and you're comfortable creating structure where the path is not yet obvious, and you have the persistence to move difficult problems forward. You collaborate openly, welcome feedback, and create momentum around ideas.

Just as importantly, you’re curious about whether the system is optimizing for the right outcome - not only whether the implementation works.

We believe you have:

• Excellent programming skills and a strong understanding of data structures

• Familiarity with concurrent programming

• A solid understanding of fundamental algorithms

• Strong object-oriented programming skills

• Experience designing or evolving production systems from an architectural perspective

• Experience working with a cloud platform such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud

It’s a plus if you have:

• Worked with machine learning, embeddings, or LLMs in production

• Experience with low-latency, high-throughput services
