Appearance Center ManagerResponsibilities and Essential Job Functions- Essential ResponsibilitiesProvides effective leadership to the unit/team. - Essential Functions – Specific to Support ServicesSupports and coaches staff, providing exceptional customer service.Responsible for posting payments, daily reconciling, and daily business managementMonitors budgeted expenditures and keeps the section expenditures within 5% of the annual budget as adjusted for volume changes.Responsible for equipment validation, maintenance, and record keeping.Regulatory: Operates the department, meeting and/or exceeding all regulatory requirements according to the American Board of Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics and Pedorthics, and The Joint Commission.Quality Assurance: Develops an annual QA plan, actively participates in the QA process and assures the completion of quarterly reports.Assure that personnel in the section are adequately trained and follow ethical practices in all aspects of services.Creates, updates, and maintains departmental policy and procedure manuals.Maintain close, collaborative relationships with physicians, nurse managers and other customers/referral sources.
- Other Essential FunctionsDetermine elements of the fitting room (e.g., adjustable stool, exam/fitting table, mirror, hard back chair etc.Determine required equipment, tools and materialsComply with environmental safety regulations in all practice settings (e.g., work place hazards)Assure quality care by development and maintenance of policies and procedures regarding patients, prescribers, personnel, maintenance of records, etc.Comply with HIPPA regulationsMaintain patient confidentialityAssist in training, lectures, and information to staff or other health care professionals on current orthotics and prosthetic informationParticipate in a quality assurance system that evaluates patient careParticipate in professional and educational symposiumsEstablish relationship with patientPatient IntakeRecord all personal and insurance information about patientDiscuss financial matters for services/devicesDetermine patients expectationsInterview patient and obtain historyCollect and evaluate patient recordsRecognize the pathology of the disease to provide the proper careDiscuss any related medical treatments

- Explain purpose /objective of orthosis/prosthesisInform patient and/or caregiver of the various procedures to be performedExplain advantages and disadvantagesDetermine patient’s expectationsExplain patient’s role/responsibilities
- Provide initial instructionsInstruct patient and/or caregiver in care of orthosis and prosthesisDemonstrate proper application, alignment, and removalInstruct patient and/or caregiver in fitting adjustments such as tightening straps etc.Explain how to recognize potential problems (e.g., pressure points, skin breakdown, numbness, contracturesExplain care and cleaning procedures
- Evaluate psychological impact of devices on patient, family and othersProcedures for patient follow-upInitiate and encourage on-going communication with patient and./or caregiverMaintain patient’s recordInform patient and/or caregiver of provisions for continued servicing of device (e.g., adjustments and consultations)Communicate with the patient and/or caregiver verbally and in writing
- Conduct inter-professional communicationsFinalize alignment and fit orthosis/prosthesis to patient Don orthosis/prosthesis to patient and finalize alignment, fit, and cosmetic appearanceDemonstrate to patient and/or caregiver donning, doffing, fitting adjustments and care of orthosis and prosthesisExplain how to recognize potential problemsHave patient or caregiver demonstrate proper application and removalHave patient and/or caregiver sign receipts and acknowledgments
- Explain follow-up proceduresEvaluate fit and function of orthosis/prosthesisPerform necessary adjustmentsSchedule follow-up visits

Required Education and Experience
- Technical/Professional training/degree in prosthetic fitting
- High School Graduate
- Previous retail sales management
- Customer service training
Preferred Education and Experience
- Bachelors Degree Business or healthcare
Required Licensure and Certification
- Certified Mastectomy Fitter - American Board for Certification in Orthotics, Prosthetics & Pedorthics (ABCOP)
