Central Plant Technician-JLL

What this job involves:

As a Central Plant Technician at JLL, you'll be at the heart of critical facility operations, responsible for the hands-on operation, monitoring, inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of central utility plant equipment that supports HVAC and process requirements across the facility. This position demands a skilled operator who can maintain equipment availability, identify abnormal operating conditions, and respond decisively to plant alarms and equipment deficiencies. You'll work with water-cooled and air-cooled chillers, cooling towers, boilers, heat exchangers, pumps and motors, variable frequency drives, building automation systems, and water treatment systems—ensuring these vital systems operate within established parameters to support seamless facility performance. What your day-to-day will look like:

• Operate and monitor central plant systems including chillers, boilers, cooling towers, and associated equipment, ensuring all systems run within established operating parameters

• Perform routine plant rounds documenting temperatures, pressures, flows, levels, and equipment status while monitoring BAS alarms, trends, and sequences of operation

• Identify abnormal vibration, noise, temperature, pressure, leakage, or other indicators of equipment degradation, escalating conditions to Engineering leadership as needed

• Execute preventive and corrective maintenance on pumps, motors, strainers, valves, heat exchangers, and related equipment, including troubleshooting mechanical and controls-related issues

• Monitor chemical treatment systems and plant water conditions, coordinating with water treatment vendors and inspecting cooling tower basins, strainers, and chemical feed equipment

• Support plant startup, shutdown, equipment rotation, and seasonal operating changes while maintaining awareness of available equipment, system redundancy, and active deficiencies

• Complete work orders and maintenance documentation within the CMMS, maintaining accurate plant logs, operating records, and following established SOPs, MOPs, and EOPs

Required qualifications:

• Minimum 4 years of central plant, commercial HVAC, industrial mechanical, or similar hands-on operations experience

• Demonstrated experience operating and maintaining chillers, boilers, cooling towers, pumps, VFDs, and building automation systems

• Ability to perform routine plant rounds and accurately document equipment parameters including temperatures, pressures, flows, and operational status

• Strong troubleshooting skills with ability to identify abnormal equipment conditions and respond appropriately to plant alarms and deficiencies

• Proficiency with CMMS systems for work order completion and maintenance documentation

• Willingness to work rotating shifts including nights, weekends, and holidays to support 24/7 plant operations

Preferred qualifications:

• Technical or trade-school education in HVAC, mechanical systems, or related field

• EPA Section 608 Universal Refrigerant Certification

• Working knowledge of hydronic systems, chilled and condenser water systems, and basic electrical troubleshooting

• Experience supporting predictive maintenance programs and equipment condition monitoring activities

• Familiarity with building automation systems for monitoring plant alarms, trends, and sequences of operation

• Previous experience in mission-critical facilities such as data centers, healthcare, higher education, or large commercial properties
