As environmental regulations continue to evolve, advanced emission-reduction technologies play a critical role in modern shipbuilding. To support the growing implementation of IMO Tier III solutions, Damen Song Cam is looking for an experiencedSCR Commissioning Engineer to join our Commissioning & Sea Trials Department. The role will contribute directly to the successful commissioning, testing, and delivery of vessels equipped with Selective Catalytic Reduction (SCR) systems.

The Role

As anSCR Commissioning Engineer, you are responsible for the preparation, commissioning, testing, troubleshooting, optimization, and acceptance of SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) systems installed onboard Damen vessels.

You will work closely with Project Teams, Commissioning Engineers, OEM suppliers, Classification Societies, and Customers to ensure SCR systems comply with IMO Tier III emissions requirements and operate safely, efficiently, and reliably throughout vessel trials and delivery.

The position is part of theCommissioning & Sea Trials Department and involves participation in harbor trials, sea trials, vessel acceptance tests, and delivery activities.

Key Responsibilities

Commissioning & Testing

As an SCR Commissioning Engineer, you will:

• Perform pre-commissioning inspections of SCR systems, including piping, instrumentation, electrical interfaces, sensors, actuators, and auxiliary equipment.
• Execute commissioning activities in accordance with approved commissioning procedures and OEM requirements.
• Commission and validate: SCR reactor systems Urea dosing systems Air supply systems Urea transfer and storage systems NOx monitoring and control systems HMI and automation interfaces
• Verify system functionality, alarms, interlocks, and safety protections.
• Support dock trials, yard trials, harbor acceptance tests (HAT), and sea acceptance tests (SAT).

Troubleshooting & Optimization

• Diagnose system faults and technical issues during commissioning and sea-trial phases.
• Analyze NOx reduction performance and optimize system settings when required.
• Coordinate corrective actions with suppliers, engineering teams, and project stakeholders.
• Support root-cause analysis and technical investigations.
• Verify system performance against contractual and regulatory requirements.

Documentation & Compliance

• Prepare commissioning reports, checklists, punch lists, and test documentation.
• Maintain commissioning records and ensure complete technical documentation for handover.
• Verify compliance with: IMO Tier III requirements Classification Society regulations Vendor specifications Damen commissioning procedures
• Support regulatory certification activities and customer acceptance processes.

Collaboration & Support

• Coordinate with Mechanical, Electrical, Automation, and Software Commissioning Engineers.
• Provide technical guidance related to SCR systems during vessel construction and commissioning.
• Support customer training and operational handover activities.
• Liaise with OEM specialists and Damen Aftertreatment experts when required.
• Support future SCR system improvements and standardization initiatives across Damen projects.

Skills & Experience

To be successful in this role, you bring:

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or another relevant technical discipline.

Experience

• Minimum 3 years of experience in marine engineering, commissioning, propulsion systems, aftertreatment systems, or industrial process systems.
• Experience in vessel commissioning, marine engines, exhaust systems, or emission-control technologies is preferred.
• Experience working within shipbuilding, marine, offshore, power generation, or heavy industrial environments.

Technical Knowledge

• Knowledge of: Marine diesel engines Exhaust gas systems SCR technology Urea dosing systems PLC/HMI systems Instrumentation and control systems
• Understanding of: IMO Tier III regulations NOx emission control requirements Marine commissioning practices Classification Society requirements
• Ability to interpret technical drawings, P&IDs, electrical diagrams, and commissioning procedures.

Competencies

• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Hands-on approach and practical problem-solving mindset.
• Strong communication and coordination skills.
• Ability to work independently and under pressure during project-critical phases.
• Willingness to travel and participate in vessel sea trials and delivery voyages.
• Good command of English, both written and spoken.
