- Contacts the main office in Celebration to request any assistance that may be necessary.
- Adheres to Company policies and standards, in addition to applicable local, state, and federal regulations and standards.
- On board motivation, implementation and observance of the SMS.
- Sees that all corrective actions required are implemented in a timely fashion and verifies the effectiveness of the corrective action.
- Responsible for seeing that all documentation relevant to the SMS is maintained onboard in accordance with Company procedures and that specified requirements of the SMS are observed.
- Sees that all Crew Members are aware of and properly motivated in the observance of the Company’s Safety and Environmental Protection Policies. This is accomplished by:
- Monthly safety meetings
- Video and publication information
- On board suggestion programs
- Regular information sessions between Department Heads
- Training new, newly promoted, and returning Crew Members
- Responsible for reviewing the SMS and reporting any deficiencies to the DPA in accordance with the procedures in SMS 1 Safety Management.
- When issuing orders, standing orders, or instructions, does so in a clear, simple and concise manner.
- Is present on the Bridge when entering or leaving port, docking and un-docking and at any other times when the safety of the ship may be questioned.
- Sees that no changes are made in the Manning Levels without the authority of the Company.
- Accountable for the efficient operation and maintenance of the ship and its equipment.
- Responsible for the welfare of the Crew.
- Responsible for the combined ship’s budget and continually monitors all expenditures incurred by the budget Officers to see that they are within the limits of the approved budget.
- Sees that that no Crew Members including the concessionaire’s working on board, are terminated without a Captain’s hearing.
- When taking over command, reviews the ship's documents and certificates and sees that the vessel is fully manned and certified to go to sea.
- Upload own standing orders into the electronic logbook and advises all Deck Officers to read and acknowledge in the NAPA Logbook system.
- Inspects the vessel regularly as required by the vessel's Flag State
- Responsible for the ship’s supply of narcotics, via the ship’s doctor, which are under control and under strict inventory accounting at all times.
- Special responsibility to educate the Staff Captain in maneuvering the ship, to see that the Staff Captain is capable of commanding the ship safely.
- Follow the sailing schedules printed in the brochures, but never at the expense of safety.
- Provide professional and social guidance to subordinates by exemplary personal behavior.
- Emergency Duties as specified in the ship Assembly Plan.
- SMS responsibility for upholding the general safety management responsibilities in areas and operations under their control.
Basic Qualifications
- Have previous relevant experience
- Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
- Be committed to the position you are applying for at least 2-3 contracts before a transfer or promotion
- Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency duties and/or associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
- Be willing and able to uphold the general safety management responsibilities specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
- Be willing to follow and embrace United States Public Health requirements and guidelines as well as Environmental requirements and Company practices
- Be willing to share a cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multi-cultural environment
- Be comfortable living in a confined space with strict rules and regulations
- Adhere to a structured lifestyle, personally and professionally

This is a SHIPBOARD role.You must:
- Be genuinely interested in a career at sea and willing to live and work onboard a Disney Cruise Line vessel
- Be willing to follow and perform safety role, emergency responsibilities, and associated responsibilities as specified in the ship Assembly Plan
- Be willing to uphold the general safety management responsibilities as specified in the Safety Management System in areas and operations under their control
- If applicable, be willing to share a confined cabin with other crew members and appreciative of working and living in a multicultural environment that has strict rules and regulations
- Have a valid passport and C1/D Seaman's visa (DCL will provide you with documents to obtain this)
- Complete a pre-employment medical
- Obtain a criminal background check
