An exciting opportunity for an experienced CAD Co-ordinator to work in a high performing team environment.
Every new building, refurbishment and transformed learning space at Macquarie University starts with accurate, reliable data. As our CAD Coordinator, you’ll play a key role in maintaining the digital information and technical systems that support the University’s built environment, enabling informed decisions across space planning, asset management and project design and delivery.
This is an exciting opportunity within our Property Division, with a newly reclassified role that reflects the growing technical expertise required across CAD, BIM/Revit and Archibus. You’ll have the opportunity to make a real impact by strengthening CAD standards and governance, improving processes, and contributing to automation and system integration initiatives across these platforms.
Working collaboratively with our Strategy & Planning and Project Management teams, as well as a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, consultants and contractors, you’ll help ensure our property data is accurate, consistent and fit for purpose.
If you’re passionate about technical precision, digital innovation and improving the way information supports the built environment, this is your opportunity to shape the systems and standards behind the spaces where our university community learns, works and connects.
About the Role
Reporting to the Space Planning Data Manager, you will manage and develop the University's CAD database, Archibus system and BIM/Revit models, ensuring data integrity, system quality and accessible, accurate drawing and asset information. Your key accountabilities will include:
- Enabling space management and planning activity, including transmittal of BIM and CAD documentation for projects and planning (such as the Master Planning Campus Model), drafting CAD concept plans, sketches and diagrams, and contributing to space audits and furniture mapping across our Capus.
- Coordinating and administering 'as-built' CAD documentation received from consultant teams and contractors for inclusion in the University drawing database using AutoCAD (Autodesk).
- Maintaining all drawings within the CAD database to current naming and layering conventions and owning CAD standards governance including drawing quality reviews and audits.
- Managing the Archibus system, including data integrity, drawing integration and system quality assurance, and identifying, troubleshooting and resolving system issues or escalating where appropriate.
- Maintaining, reviewing and coordinating BIM and Revit models that inform planning, project delivery and asset management outcomes.
- Leading the development, implementation and monitoring of CAD design standards and procedures to meet customer requirements and industry benchmarks for continuous improvement.
- Developing and maintaining a central drawing database for authorised user access and assisting the wider Property Division with drawing and documentation requirements.
- Contributing to automation, process improvement and integration initiatives across the CAD, BIM and Archibus platforms, and providing ongoing and ad-hoc reporting and data visualisation of space utilisation.
About Us
The Property Division assists the University in achieving its learning, teaching and research goals through planning, development and maintenance services for all University buildings and infrastructure, as well as managing a growing commercial property investment portfolio. Please note that work hours may vary from time to time to accommodate business needs.
Macquarie University is a place of inspiration, a university known for its research excellence, progressive teaching and a campus set within 126 hectares of parkland. Our Property Division plays a defining part in that experience, planning and caring for the academic, research and commercial precincts that bring our community of students, researchers, clinicians and professional staff into one connected place. Here, technical expertise is valued, questions are welcomed, and good ideas are given room to grow.
About You
You are a CAD and BIM specialist who takes pride in accuracy, consistency and well-governed data. You enjoy being the person others rely on for the correct drawing, and you look for better ways to organise, automate and present information. You work comfortably with consultants and contractors, translate their documentation into university protocols, and explain technical detail in plain language to non-technical colleagues.
Selection Criteria
- A degree in a field related to architecture, construction or engineering, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education and training.
- Extensive knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) and Building Information Modelling (BIM) systems and software, including hands-on experience with AutoCAD (Autodesk) and Revit (Autodesk).
- Demonstrated experience administering and maintaining a CAD library and central drawing database, including data integrity and system quality assurance.
- Experience administering Archibus or an equivalent IWMS/space management platform, including troubleshooting and progressing system enhancements.
- Demonstrated ability to modify CAD drawing material provided by external consultants so that it complies with organisational protocols and standards.
- Well-developed written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare clear, accurate written material and to build effective working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage your own workload with minimal day-to-day direction within a multi-disciplinary team environment, and to keep pace with industry trends and developments in the CAD field.
- Experience in the higher education sector is desirable, though not essential.
