What is NATS?NATS is the UK’s leading Air Navigation Service Provider (ANSP). Every year we handle around 2.5 million flights and over 300 million passengers travelling in UK airspace. We provide air traffic management (ATM) services to 15 airports in the UK, as well as services to customers across Europe, the Middle East, Asia and North America.

What will the Business IT Industrial Placement involve?
This 12-month placement may be based at our Head Office in Whiteley, Hampshire, or at our Air Traffic Control Centres in Swanwick, Hampshire or Prestwick, Scotland.
The placement will be in Information Solutions (IS), a critical business department. Our purpose is to provide enterprise IT services that enhance productivity and keep our information safe. Our vision is to proudly serve our customers through effective, innovative and sustainable use of information and technology. Information Solutions provides a wide spectrum of business IT services that all our users need to do their day-to-day jobs. Everything from hardware such as laptops, desktops, mobile phones and network equipment, through to productivity tooling, collaboration platforms, corporate and specific lines of business applications.
You will gain experience in how the organisation manages technology, suppliers, services and business change in order to deliver against business objectives and the IS strategy. This is a perfect opportunity to kick start a career in business IT.
IS collaborates with many areas of the business and during your scheme you can gain experience of these various perspectives. The scheme includes opportunities to be involved in the following areas:
• Service Strategy – Business Relationship Management & Service Ownership.
• Service Design – end to end design covering infrastructure, applications & support model for new & existing services, working with suppliers.
• Business analysis –capturing & analysing requirements for new/improving services. Managing pieces of work to implement change.
• Service Operations - working closely with suppliers on service delivery, to facilitate transition & ongoing management of both existing & new services.
• Architecture – broad view of gaps & overlaps in our systems, direction setting for system changes & policy creation.
• IS Security Management – working closely with our suppliers ensuring our IS security is managed & evolved to protect us against cyber exploits & vulnerabilities.
• Development – creating & maintaining custom applications & coding, working with raw data feeds & collaborating with the Analytics team to get more value from our data.

You’ll need to be studying towards a relevant degree which allows you to take a placement opportunity as part of it, and have an interest in Information Solutions and technology.
To be eligible to apply, you must have indefinite, unrestricted right to work in the UK. Unfortunately, we cannot consider candidates whose right to work is time-limited or dependent on visa sponsorship.

Additional vacancy information
If you apply and meet the minimum requirements for the placement, you’ll be invited to complete online tests. Candidates who pass this stage may be invited to a virtual assessment centre.
Assessment centres will be held between 30 November and 11 December 2026.
The placement will start on 6 September 2027.
