Title: Business Analyst II (Sustainability Analyst)
Duration: 6+ months
Location: San Francisco, CA. Hybrid, onsite 3 days per week.

Job Description:
The Corporate Sustainability team is looking for a talented Sustainability Analyst. This role supports greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting, emissions analytics, sustainability reporting and compliance programs, and related data management. It suits someone who combines technical rigor in GHG accounting, GHG Protocol methodologies and advanced analytics with strong project and relationship management skills.

Primary Responsibilities:
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Accounting

  • Analyze company activity data and calculate GHG emissions across Scopes 1, 2 and 3.
  • Perform Scope 1, 2 and 3 GHG footprinting and emissions calculations, with particular focus on these Scope 3 areas: spend data and hybrid methodology, business travel, employee commuting/WFH, upstream leased assets, use of sold products, franchises and investments.
  • Support third-party assurance and CDP disclosure processes by fulfilling data and documentation requests.
  • Document and refine process narratives, calculation methodologies and inventory management practices.
  • Support QA/QC and reporting in Net Zero Cloud (NZC).
  • Research evolving industry trends, sustainability standards and frameworks, and emissions calculation and modeling methodologies.
Reporting and Accountability
  • Manage data collection and stakeholder coordination for assigned categories so that sustainability reporting and compliance submissions are on time.
  • Ensure data accuracy and consistency in emissions reporting.
  • Deliver clear, timely data and insights to business partners using data visualization tools such as Tableau.
  • Perform ad hoc sustainability data analysis and reporting.
A Typical Day:
Most of the day is independent, hands-on analysis in spreadsheets, SQL/Python and Net Zero Cloud: cleaning and QA’ing activity data, running Scope 1, 2 and 3 calculations, and updating methodology and process documentation. A large part of the day is following up with data owners and stakeholders to get data on time and tracking the status of their reviews and sign-offs. You will also make data requests of stakeholders and handle requests from assurance and CDP reviewers. You will join regular GHG accounting meetings and work alongside an in-office accounting team of 3–4 people.

About You:
  • You want to drive positive global impact for people, nature and climate.
  • You enjoy primary data collection, GHG Protocol methodologies, evolving standards and preparing for external assurance.
  • You are analytical, highly organized, detail-oriented and skilled at documenting processes.
  • You have strong communication and project management skills.
  • You bring an engineering mindset to data and look for ways to automate and streamline processes with AI and software tools.
  • You ask questions readily and enjoy learning and improving operational processes.
Required Experience:
  • Delivered a GHG inventory through assurance, including Scope 3 accounting (multiple years preferred).
  • Prepared data, process narratives and documentation for third-party audit and assurance processes.
  • Working knowledge of GHG accounting methodologies under the Greenhouse Gas Protocol, including category-specific calculation approaches (spend-based, activity-based, hybrid, average-data, supplier-specific).
  • Strong core technical skills, with high proficiency in complex spreadsheet calculations (pivot tables, lookups, array formulas), data analysis and quality control across large activity datasets.
  • Comfortable working with third-party or professional services organizations.
  • Able to solve problems and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Positive, team-oriented, hands-on and flexible attitude.
Must-Have Skills:
  1. Greenhouse gas accounting and Scope 3 accounting methods
  2. Attention to detail
  3. Experience in ESG and corporate sustainability
  4. Advanced spreadsheet skills (pivot tables, lookups, array formulas) and QC across large datasets
  5. Preparing documentation and process narratives for third-party audit
  6. Written and verbal communication, and managing multiple priorities
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Claude Code or similar AI coding agents to speed up workflow automation and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with SQL and Python for data querying, analysis or workflow automation scripts.
  • Experience applying advanced analytics.
  • Experience with large unstructured datasets.
  • Experience with Tableau or other data visualization tools.
  • Teachable Skills: Net Zero Cloud, Claude Code, internal GHG accounting processes.
