Fleet Manager - Tanker
As aFleet Managerat BSM, you will be responsible for ensuring the safe, efficient, and commercially viable operation of a fleet in line with international standards and regulations. You will lead a high-performing team, manage client relationships, and drive continuous improvement to uphold BSMโs reputation for excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Identify and propose improvements and advanced solutions across the full range of services provided by BSM.
Actively promote Group initiatives to fleet teams and participate in relevant seminars.
Proactively support the usage and compliance of company-developed software systems and IT platforms.
Stay up to date with new regulations and BSM procedure changes. Ensure the Fleet department is prepared for TMSA and other office audits.
Ensure Ship Management Agreements and Charter Parties are fulfilled to the highest standards.
Ensure high-quality data is shared with customers through Livefleet.
Engage with stakeholders, including charterers and oil majors, to understand and fulfil their expectations.
Ensure maintenance and spare parts strategies are effectively communicated and implemented within the fleet team.
Monitor the accurate execution of all planned vessel maintenance activities and ensure ships' condition and maintenance standards comply with organisational procedures and client requirements.
Provide solutions to discrepancies to ensure compliance with standards and agreements.
Ensure vessels comply with international, flag state, classification society, and port state regulations, and monitor certificate validity to prevent overdue certifications.
Ensure advanced planning and the timely, accurate completion of dry-dockings and major overhauls by the TSI.
Promote and maintain commercial awareness within the fleet.
Ensure accurate execution of the consolidated OPEX budget.
Provide budget guidance letters to TSIs covering BSM Group, IMO, and industry requirements.
Approve purchase orders requiring Fleet Manager approval in accordance with procedures.
Promote and utilise contracted vendors, GenPro, and the company's various Value-Added Services (VAS), subject to owner approval.
Monitor BI and other data sources to analyse fleet performance, review high-risk vessels, and prepare statistics for MRM and client reporting.
Ensure superintendent visits to vessels are conducted as required.
Ensure implementation of corrective and preventive actions.
Manage fleet team resources, including workload allocation, absence planning, appraisals, and career development.
Use the appraisal process to monitor the development and progress of shore staff.
Support company initiatives related to the human element.
Liaise closely with the Fleet Personnel Manager to ensure crewing standards are maintained onboard.
Provide final approval for the selection of Top-2 officers, as well as Chief Officers and 2nd Engineers for new joiners.
Attend Fleet Leader Meetings with crew members at least once per year.
Qualifications & Experience
Bachelorโs degree in Nautical Science, Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, or equivalent.
Chief Engineer or Master Mariner qualification preferred.
Minimum 3 years as Technical, Marine, or LPSQ Superintendent on relevant vessels, or 5 years in ship management/owning operations.
Experience with Tanker is preferred.
