Mechanical Engineer (Multiple Levels) – Plastics / Tool & Die Engineering

We are hiring Mechanical Engineers at multiple levels in Lewiston, ID. Whether you are early in your career and looking to grow as a mechanical engineer or have several years of experience, we have a place for you on our team.

What you will do
In this position, you will be working with internal and external customers to solve plastic injection molding problems. This includes both consulting on part design and designing tooling that meets the needs of the production teams. Consulting often consists of working with R&D Engineers to implement plastic part Design for Manufacturability while considering the part function and assembly context. In addition to the mechanical design, you would also perform mold flow analysis utilizing Moldex3D FEA software. The results of these efforts inform the mold design work you will perform to ensure the production team has a high-quality, reliable tool.

A typical day in the role might include:

Consulting

• Plastic part design

• Design for manufacturability reviews

• FEA - mold flow analysis

Tooling Design

• Quoting internal tool builds

• Writing mold specifications, getting external tooling quotes, and managing the project including review of vendor tool designs

• Mold design

• Future tooling design opportunities may include press brake tooling, punch tooling, progressive dies, and other areas as Vertical Integration continues to grow.

Other Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Perform the following mechanical engineering functions:
-- assembly design
-- plastic and metal part design
-- tolerance studies
-- design for manufacturability/assembly
-- component selection and specification
-- thermal analysis and design
2. Qualify and monitor tooling vendors.

3. Generate and maintain accurate Bills of Material. Provide accurate labor and material estimates.

4. Review, support, approve and provide recommendations for improvements to documentation, mechanical designs, and manufacturing process design.

5. Maintain current and accurate project notebooks.

6. Mentor ME Interns, Designers, and Associate ME’s.

7. Follow and apply SEL Values, Principles of Operations, and World Class Manufacturing Principles.

8. Understand. Create. Simplify.

9. Other duties as assigned.

This job might be for you if you are a US Citizen and if you: 
B.S. and/or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering
2+ years’ experience in three or more of the following areas:
-- electromechanical packaging design
-- heat transfer
-- materials and processes
-- mechanics
-- computer-aided design
Strong problem-solving skills
Strong project management experience
Strong writing, documentation, and speaking skills
Ability to learn new skills and assume new responsibilities
Ability to work effectively in a team environment
Background check results satisfactory to SEL
Negative drug test result(s)

Preferred Qualifications
2+ years SolidWorks or TopSolid experience
Injection mold design experience

Industrial plastics

Thermal modelling

Finite Element Analysis

Pay Range Data –

$91,500 - $124,500 annually - Associate Mechanical Engineer

$100,600 - $144,400 annually - Mechanical Engineer

We set starting pay based on job-related factors such as your experience, training, knowledge, and skills. Depending on your background, we may consider you for a different level, with compensation aligned accordingly.
