Director & Associate General Counsel - North America

About the Role

As aDirector & Associate General Counsel at Humanoid, you will lead legal operations across the U.S. and Canada as we scale our footprint in the region. Reporting to the Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel, you'll serve as our senior legal representative and principal point of contact here — spanning regulatory support for production and R&D, IP across the research and manufacturing lifecycle, dispute resolution and pre-litigation matters, and the corporate and financing work that comes with our growth. You'll also partner closely with compliance leadership to track regulatory obligations, support public policy engagement, and own the region's legal infrastructure: entity management, governance, policies, templates, outside counsel, tooling, and reporting.

What You'll Do

• Own legal operations for North America across the United States and Canada, acting as an extension of the Office of the General Counsel in the region.

• Provide regulatory support to our production and R&D functions as HMND‑01 is deployed into industrial environments, working with compliance leadership to translate requirements into workable processes.

• Advise on IP rights across R&D and production, including invention capture, ownership, licensing, and protection.

• Manage disputes and pre-litigation matters across the region.

• Support commercial contracting in North America in partnership with our global contracts function.

• Drive legal support for public policy and government engagement in the United States and Canada, in partnership with our government relations and commercial leadership.

• Support corporate and financing workstreams in the region.

• Engage and manage outside counsel across the United States and Canada, with a clear view of cost and value.

• Own the legal operations infrastructure for the region, including entity management, policies, templates, tooling, and reporting.

• Build, manage, and develop the North American legal team as headcount grows, while remaining close to the work yourself.

What We're Looking For

• 10+ years of legal experience following bar admission, including 5+ years in-house in regulated industries.

• Licensed US attorney in good standing — admitted in Massachusetts, or admitted in another US jurisdiction and eligible for Massachusetts in-house counsel registration.

• 5+ years of people management experience, with the ability to build and scale a team as the region grows.

• Regulatory support experience across production and R&D functions.

• Substantive IP experience.

• Dispute resolution experience.

• A hands-on, execution-oriented approach: you do the work yourself as well as overseeing others.

• Comfortable operating in ambiguity and creating clarity in a fast-moving environment.

• Ability to work from our Boston office five days per week.

Nice to Have

• Familiarity with Canadian law, or experience running a cross-border US–Canada remit.

• Experience in robotics, artificial intelligence (AI), automotive, aerospace, or advanced manufacturing.

• Experience supporting a venture financing round in-house.

• Exposure to product safety, export controls, or trade compliance.

• Experience supporting government relations or public policy work.

For this role in Massachusetts, the expected base salary range is $220K–$300K USD per year; your placement in that range depends on how your experience maps to our internal leveling.
