The City of Brooks requires one (1) Utility Operator, in the Utilities Services Department. This is a full-time permanent and union position. 

SUMMARY OF FUNCTION:

This position operates hydrovac/flusher truck to maintain and expose underground piping as related to the Utility Department and flushes sewer and storm lines.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

1. Ensures proper preventive maintenance of the wastewater and storm collection system. 
   
2. Operates skillfully and competently the hydrovac/flusher truck. 
   
3. Maintains related records for flushing schedule.
   
4. Maintains equipment according to approved standards and procedures. 
   
5. Operates equipment including large equipment as assigned.
   
6. Works shift work as assigned.
   
7. Must be able to work with little to no supervision.
   
8. Reports condition of the City’s infrastructure to the Utility Foreman.
   
9. Ensures proper traffic/pedestrian control is in place for work site.
   
10. Performs preventive maintenance on Hydrovac/Flusher unit as in Maintenance Manual.
    
11. Must be able to improve flushing program. 
    
12. Must be able to run sewer camera to observe condition of piping.  

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

1. Completion of a high school diploma or equivalent. 
2. Valid class 3 drivers licence with Q endorsement.
   
3. Clean drivers abstract.
   
4. Standard First Aid. 
   
5. Confined Space Certificate 
   
6. H2S Certificate. 
   
7. Ground Disturbance Certificate.
   
8. Equipotential Bonding Certificate. 
   
9. Flag Person Certification. 
   
10. Fall Protection.
    
11. Strong public relations, verbal and written communication skills.
    
12. Willing to complete basic safety training.
    
13. Ability to operate computer systems related to waste water operations.
14. Ability to plan, prioritize and manage own workload including the ability to tolerate frequent interruptions and still meet deadlines.
    
15. Attention to details and strong prioritizing and multi-tasking skills.
    
16. Mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
    
17. Capable of working outside in all types of weather.
    
18. Must be able to work independently with limited supervision.
    
19. Ability to maintain confidentiality regarding department and municipal matters.
    
20. Subject to a criminal record check.
