Business and Personal Finance Coordinator (Part-Time, ~20 hrs/week)
Location: Santa Barbara, California (Hybrid)
We are a home health care business seeking an experienced, hands-on finance professional to help organize and coordinate our business and household finances on a part-time basis (approximately 20 hours per week).
This role is ideal for someone who enjoys being the “financial quarterback” rather than a back-office bookkeeper—someone who can connect the dots between accounting, tax, banking, and personal planning, and make sure nothing falls through the cracks. The work includes “CFO-level” insight and coordination, without being a C suite title.
What You’ll Do
- Coordinate tax and accounting activities
• Work with our CPA and tax preparer to ensure organized, complete, and timely tax documentation.
• Partner with our CFO and review financial reporting.
• Maintain an organized system for key financial records and deadlines.
2. Oversee accounts payable and cash disbursements
• Review and strengthen accounts-payable processes and vendor records.
• Improve visibility into upcoming payments and cash requirements.
• Help ensure appropriate controls around payments and approvals.
3. Provide “CFO-level” insight on the business
• Track cash flow and help with basic forecasting and budgeting.
• Flag issues, trends, and opportunities for the business owner.
• Help create a consistent financial calendar (reconciliations, reporting, tax estimates, payroll, major payments).
4. Support personal financial planning
• Provide household cash-flow visibility and simple projections.
• Help set reserve and liquidity targets.
• Coordinate with tax, investment, insurance, or estate-planning professionals (you are not expected to manage investments directly).
5. Act as the financial “quarterback”
• Serve as the central point of contact among the CPA, tax preparer, accounting/bookkeeping resources, bank, and other advisors.
• Translate between technical finance/tax language and practical decisions for the owner.
• Make sure responsibilities are clear and that key tasks and deadlines are not missed.
Who You Are
• 5+ years of experience in finance, accounting, or related roles (e.g., controller, finance manager, FP&A, or similar).
• Comfortable working with small-business financials; experience with service businesses or healthcare is a plus.
• Strong understanding of basic accounting, cash flow, budgeting, and tax coordination (you do not need to be a CPA, but you must be able to work effectively with one).
• Highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented; able to create structure and follow through without constant supervision.
• Able to explain financial concepts clearly to a non-financial owner.
• High integrity and discretion in handling confidential financial information.
Role Details
• Schedule: Part-time, approximately 20 hours per week (flexibility on days/times).
• Employment type: Part-time W 2.
• Location: Santa Barbara, California; hybrid (mix of in-person and remote).
Compensation
• $50–$70 per hour DOE (dependent on experience).
Compensation will reflect:
• Depth of experience (controller/CFO-lite vs. strong finance manager).
• Industry experience and complexity of prior roles.
• Level of strategic vs. purely operational support.
