Contract Duration: 9 months with possibility for extension
Schedule: Full-time, 40 hours/week, Monday–Friday
Pay rate: $110/hr on W2

We are looking for an experiencedBiocompatibility Scientist / Toxicologist to provide technical leadership in the evaluation of materials used across Reality Labs products.
In this role, you will leadtoxicological and biocompatibility assessments, including hazard identification, exposure assessment, material reviews, and risk assessment. You will partner closely with engineering, product development, materials, safety, quality, suppliers, and external testing laboratories to ensure materials and products meet applicablebiocompatibility requirements and ISO 10993 standards.
The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise in toxicology and biocompatibility, experience developing testing strategies and protocols, and the ability to translate complex scientific assessments into clear recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Biocompatibility Scientist Responsibilities:
- Be a technical leader in areas of Toxicology and Biocompatibility to support all wearable and non-wearable products developed by FRL
- Conduct in-depth toxicological assessment including hazard identification and exposure assessment for materials considered in FRL products
- Design and manage biocompatibility testing strategies for materials and products to address key biocompatibility endpoints/gaps in working closely with internal and external test labs
- Work closely with cross functional team members and suppliers to ensure selection of biocompatible materials, influence key material/product decisions and support in identification of safer alternatives
- Drive and help build harmonized biocompatibility processes, policies and testing strategy across all FRL products
- Engage and communicate with FRL leaders on biocompatibility specific topics
- Represent FRL in external industry level committees and working groups towards building standards and/or guidance for wearable products in consumer electronics
- Ph.D in toxicology or related field with 3 years experience in a related industry or MS in toxicology or related field with 7 years of experience in a related industry
- Experience conducting material review, toxicological risk assessments, building dossier, drafting processes and procedures (SOP's) and building restricted material specifications
- Fundamental understanding and experience in ISO 10993 standards and reviewing materials for biocompatibility
- Good understanding of analytical testing methodologies
- Working knowledge on biological testing, alternative testing methodologies and prediction modeling
- Ability to work in fast paced, collaborative, cross functional environment
- Excellent communication skills. Ability to present clearly to technical and nontechnical audience
- Be a team player. Have strong analytical skills and ability to think outside of the box
- Board certification in Toxicology (DABT).
- Experience working in theconsumer electronics industry.
- Experience supportingwearable technology or human-facing products.
- Experience working with suppliers and external laboratories on material safety and biocompatibility programs.
- Experience participating inindustry standards, regulatory, or technical working groups related to biocompatibility, toxicology, or consumer products.
