Are you an experienced Behaviour Support Practitioner who wants to make a meaningful difference in the lives of children and young people? Join SSI Group’s Multicultural Child and Family Program (MCFP) and use your expertise to strengthen child wellbeing, carer confidence and placement stability.
In this hands-on role, you will partner with children, young people, carers, families and MCFP colleagues to develop and implement high-quality Positive Behaviour Support Plans (PBSPs). Your work will be trauma-informed, culturally responsive and evidence-informed, with a strong focus on practical strategies that can be applied consistently in everyday care.
About the Role
You will provide specialist behaviour support across the MCFP team, working closely with caseworkers and managers. You will assess behavioural needs and risks, develop proactive prevention and de-escalation strategies, and support the effective implementation and review of PBSPs.
What you’ll do:
- Develop, implement and review high-quality PBSPs that meet legislative requirements and respond to each child’s needs.
- Work collaboratively with children, young people, carers, families and MCFP staff to improve wellbeing and support stable placements.
- Deliver culturally responsive, evidence-informed behaviour support where restrictive practices may be in use.
- Provide training and coaching so carers, children, young people and staff can confidently apply PBSP strategies.
- Attend case planning meetings, school meetings and home visits, and gather feedback on progress and plan effectiveness.
- Identify and respond to behavioural risks through prevention, crisis and de-escalation planning.
- Maintain timely, accurate records, reports, file notes and mandatory reporting documentation.
- Collaborate with allied health professionals, schools, DCJ, the Office of the Children’s Guardian and other partners.
About You
You are a skilled and collaborative practitioner who can translate behavioural assessment into clear, achievable strategies for children, carers and teams.
To succeed in this role, you will bring:
- Strong demonstrated experience developing and implementing behaviour support plans.
- Experience working with children and carers in the out-of-home care (OOHC) system.
- Experience supporting children and young people with complex or challenging behaviours and disability.
- Knowledge of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and/or other evidence-based behavioural approaches.
- A relevant degree or equivalent qualification.
- Strong risk assessment, documentation, communication and stakeholder-engagement skills.
- The ability to provide culturally responsive support to children and families from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
If you have strong behaviour-planning capability and experience supporting children and carers in OOHC, we would love to hear from you.
