General Summary:The BCBA Clinical Director provides clinical leadership, oversight, and supervision across center-based and community based Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) services. This role is responsible for ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based, culturally responsive, and individualized care while promoting clinical excellence, staff development, and positive client outcomes. The BCBA Clinical Director provides direct supervision and support to Behavior Analyst Trainees (BATs) and other clinical staff, guiding clinical decision-making, treatment implementation, documentation, professional development, and performance.
Working in partnership with operational and organizational leadership, the BCBA Clinical Director helps implement clinical strategies, strengthen clinical workflows, support integrated care coordination, and maintain compliance with organizational policies and applicable AHCCCS, BACB, Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners, health plan, and regulatory requirements.
This position also supports the ongoing development of the ABA program by promoting consistent clinical standards, effective supervision practices, and a positive, mission-aligned culture across clinic and in-home services.
JOB RESPONSIBLITIES:
1. Clinical Leadership & Program Oversight · Provide clinical supervision to unlicensed clinical staff in accordance with organizational, state, and regulatory standards. · Ensure clinical services are delivered in alignment with evidence-based practices, medical necessity criteria, and organizational policies. · Review and approve clinical documentation, treatment plans, and assessments to ensure quality and compliance. · Provide case consultation and guidance on complex clinical situations, crisis interventions, and risk management. · Ensure appropriate level of care determinations and service delivery.
2. Staff Supervision & Workforce Development · Provide clinical supervision to licensed and/or unlicensed clinical staff in accordance with state licensure & AHCCCS rules. · Participate in performance evaluations, chart reviews, corrective guidance, and ongoing feedback. · Support staff professional development, training, CEU planning, internship/residency coordination, and skill-building initiatives. · Support onboarding, orientation, and training of new clinical staff.
3. Clinical Documentation & Quality Assurance · Work with QM and Clinic Staff ensuring documentation meets state, federal, payer, and organizational standards (timeliness, content, medical necessity). · Assist in monitoring compliance with treatment planning, CFT/CM/MH reviews, progress notes, service authorizations, and discharge planning. · Conduct regular chart audits and quality reviews; collaborate with the operations oversight for any recommended corrective action plans as needed. · Support integration with utilization management, prior authorization, and care coordination teams.
4. Regulatory, Licensing & Payer Compliance · Ensure clinical services meet regulatory requirements including HIPAA, OSHA, state licensure. · Maintain adherence to payer requirements, clinical protocols, credentialing standards, and service definitions. · Participate in internal/external audits, investigations, incident reviews, and corrective action plans.
5. Member Care Coordination & Safety · Support complex case management, crisis intervention protocols, and escalation pathways. · Ensure continuity of care across service levels (outpatient, medical, inpatient, community). · Oversee risk management related to clinical services, including safety planning and mandated reporting.
6. Clinical Collaboration and Communication · Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including medical providers, care coordinators, and operational leadership. · Support integrated care efforts between behavioral health and physical health providers. · Communicate effectively with the Executive Director regarding clinical trends, risks, and staff performance. · Participate in team meetings within program and across the organization.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Minimum Education Required: Master’s degree in Applied Behavior Analysis, Education, Psychology, or related field.
- Minimum Experience Required: Four years of related experience in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis and two years of supervisory experience.
- License Requirement: Must be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst recognized by the Behavior Analyst Certification Board and must be licensed behavior analyst recognized by the Arizona Board of Psychologist Examiners.
Regulatory Requirements:
- Minimum 18 years of age.
- Valid AZ DPS Level I fingerprint clearance card (must maintain valid card throughout employment)
- CPR, First Aid, AED certification, if required (must maintain throughout employment).
- Current, valid Driver’s License and 39-month Motor Vehicle Report and proof of vehicle registration liability insurance to meet insurance requirements
- Initial current negative TB test result, if required (Employer provides).
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screen and may be subject to random, post-injury, reasonable suspicion and/or annual drug screens as requested by leadership or required by program regulations.
