Team Overview:
Edward Jones Bank is a newly established, FDIC‑insured industrial bank headquartered in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Bank is a wholly owned subsidiary of The Jones Financial Companies, L.L.L.P. and has been formed to expand Edward Jones’ ability to serve clients’ banking needs through a focused, conservatively managed banking platform.
The Bank’s business model centers on supporting Edward Jones clients through insured deposit products and securities based lending solutions, with a balance sheet and risk profile designed to emphasize liquidity, capital strength, and operational resiliency. Edward Jones Bank operates under a robust governance framework, with an independent Board of Directors, experienced bank leadership, and policies and controls aligned with regulatory expectations for safety, soundness, and financial reporting integrity.
Edward Jones Bank benefits from Edward Jones’ long‑standing culture of risk management, compliance, and client service, while operating as a distinct, separately capitalized banking entity with its own management, systems, and regulatory oversight.
What You Will Do:
The Bank Operations Risk Officer supports the Chief Risk Officer accountable for the ownership, governance, and continuous enhancement of key components of the Bank's Risk Management Framework. The role serves as the independent second line owner of Third-Party Risk Management, Model Risk Management, and Issue Management programs and is responsible for ensuring these programs operate effectively and remain aligned with regulatory expectations, the Bank's risk appetite, and strategic objectives. The position exercises independent judgment, provides credible challenge to senior leaders and affiliate stakeholders, and drives risk management outcomes across a matrixed operating environment. As the Bank matures, the role will support expansion of second-line risk oversight into additional risk domains, including credit and financial risks.
Responsibilities include:
- Lead and own the Bank's Third-Party Risk Management program, including governance, risk assessments, due diligence oversight, ongoing monitoring, issue remediation, and reporting.
- Drive coordination with affiliate partners and service providers to ensure enterprise capabilities effectively support the Bank's risk management and regulatory requirements while identifying and implementing Bank-specific enhancements where necessary.
- Own and govern the Bank's Enterprise Issue Management Program and associated governance framework, including issue identification, root cause analysis, remediation planning, validation, escalation, and reporting. Hold stakeholders accountable for timely remediation and effective risk reduction across Bank and affiliate-supported activities.
- Own second-line oversight of the Bank's Model Risk Management Program and governance processes. Provide independent challenge and oversight of model inventory management, validation activities, issue remediation, and reporting. Partner with Bank model owners and affiliate stakeholders to ensure models impacting the Bank operate within approved governance standards, regulatory expectations, and risk tolerances.
- Provide independent oversight and credible challenge of risk-taking activities, control environments, and affiliate-supported processes to ensure risks are appropriately identified, assessed, monitored, and mitigated consistent with the Bank's Risk Management Framework.
- Own and direct operational risk assessment activities across products, services, third-party relationships, technology environments, and strategic initiatives. Exercise independent judgment to identify material risks, evaluate control effectiveness, challenge risk assumptions, and recommend risk mitigation strategies to senior leadership.
- Own assigned components of the Enterprise Risk Management Framework, including risk assessments, risk appetite monitoring, key risk indicators, and governance reporting. Drive the maturation and expansion of second-line risk oversight capabilities, including future oversight of credit and financial risk disciplines.
- Own risk governance reporting for executive management, management committees, and the Board and provide independent assessments of program effectiveness, risk exposures, emerging risks, and risk appetite alignment.
- Drive the development, maintenance, and enhancement of risk management policies, standards, procedures, and governance frameworks. Ensure Bank programs remain aligned with regulatory expectations while effectively leveraging affiliate capabilities and infrastructure.
- Regulatory and Audit Engagement. Lead risk management coordination efforts for regulatory examinations, internal audits, external audits, and independent reviews related to assigned programs. Oversee remediation activities and ensure timely and sustainable resolution of findings and recommendations.
- Risk Leadership and Culture. Serve as a trusted risk advisor to Bank leadership and business partners. Drive a strong risk culture through effective communication, training, guidance, and collaboration while influencing risk-based decision making throughout the organization.
