About The Job:

• A hands-on Backend Developer for real-time process monitoring solution. Builds the data ingestion, processing and backend services that power near real-time monitoring of Critical Process Parameters (CPPs) — process-monitoring dashboards, control charts, alert/action limits, drift detection and nonconformance flagging.
• Strong Python, SQL and data-engineering skills applied in a manufacturing context, with cloud (Azure) and containerised deployment.

Essential Job Functions:

• Designs, builds and maintains backend services and APIs that power the real-time process monitoring dashboards and analytics.
• Develops and maintains scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, transform and store manufacturing/process (CPP) data from source systems and sensors.
• Implements the data and processing logic behind control charts, alert/action limits, drift detection and nonconformance flagging.
• Writes efficient SQL and data models to support reliable, performant querying for dashboards and analytics.
• Ensures data quality, consistency, lineage and integrity across ingestion and processing, with appropriate validation and error handling.
• Optimises backend performance, throughput and latency to meet near real-time monitoring needs.
• Containerises and deploys services (e.g. Docker) and supports CI/CD and cloud operations on Azure.
• Partners with data scientists (ADS), frontend developers, data engineering and delivery teams to integrate analytical outputs into the monitoring solution.
• Collaborates with manufacturing/process SMEs to understand CPPs, process behaviour and operating context, and reflect them correctly in the backend.
• Writes clean, maintainable, well-tested code, participates in code reviews, and supports testing, troubleshooting and ongoing enhancements.

Qualifications:
Must haves

• 6-7+ years’ experience as a Backend / Data Engineer building data-intensive applications.
• Strong hands-on Python for backend services, data processing and pipeline development.
• Strong SQL — query optimisation, data modelling and working with large/structured and time-series data.
• Solid data-engineering skills: building and maintaining scalable ingestion, transformation and storage pipelines.
• Manufacturing domain knowledge — understanding of process/manufacturing data, equipment/sensor data and operational context.
• Experience building and integrating REST APIs / backend services consumed by dashboards or frontends.
• Good understanding of data quality, consistency and integrity across integrated systems.

Good to have

• Azure cloud services (e.g. data services, storage, functions, pipelines) — secondary skill.
• Containers and orchestration (Docker, Kubernetes) — secondary skill.
• Exposure to real-time / streaming data (e.g. MQTT/UNS, OPC-UA, Kafka) and time-series databases.
• Experience with CI/CD, version control and automated testing for data pipelines.
• Familiarity with Statistical Process Control (SPC), control charts or drift/anomaly detection concepts.
• Pharmaceutical / life-sciences or other regulated manufacturing experience.
