Overview:


 

The Division ofGeneticand GenomicMedicineintheDepartment ofPediatrics atThe Ohio StateUniversityCollege ofMedicine, located at Nationwide Children's Hospital inColumbus,Ohio,isseeking ametabolicgeneticistto join in ourclinical, researchandteachingactivities.  Full time, part time and leadership opportunities may be available for the appropriately experienced candidate.

The Metabolic Subsection of the Division of Genetics and Genomic Medicine serves inpatients and outpatients of all ages. The successfulcandidate willjoinanexpandingteamthatconsists oftenclinicalgeneticists(two metabolic),21geneticcounselors, threefull-time metabolic dieticians,three nurse practitioners,and metabolic medical assistants/LPNs to provide expert care to patients with metabolic genetic disease. Biochemicalgenetics laboratory services on site. 

The Division also supports a Clinical Geneticsresidency program, andfellowshipsinMedicalBiochemical,Molecular Genetics and Cytogenetics.Nationwide Children’s is 1 of 8 Regional Genetics Centersfundedby the Ohio Department of Health, serving over3.5 million(>750,000pediatric age) incentral,northwest and southeast Ohio,with 35,000birthsannually. In addition to biochemical laboratory services,Nationwide boasts on-sitecytogenetics andmolecular diagnosticlabs witheasy access toon-site rapidgenomesequencing as well asflexibilityto send-outtesting asneeded. There are anumber of activeclinical trials focused on metabolicsconductedthroughthe Division.

Job Description:


 

Essential Functions:

  • Conducts patient assessments and diagnoses medical conditions.
  • Develops and implements treatment plans for patients in accordance with established protocols. Monitors patient progress and adjusts treatment plans as necessary.
  • Orders and interprets diagnostic tests to aid in patient diagnosis and treatment.
  • Communicates with patients and their families to provide education and support.
  • Maintains accurate and up-to-date medical records for each patient and coordinates care with other healthcare professionals.
  • Participates in the training and education of medical students, residents, and fellows as required.
  • Stays up-to-date with medical advancements and research to provide the best possible care.


Education Requirement:

  • Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine equivalent, required.
  • Graduate of an approved Fellowship program if applicable, required.


Licensure Requirement:

  • Medical License in the State of Ohio, required.
  • Unrestricted licensed physician, required.


Certifications:

Board Certification or eligibility in Pediatrics, required.

Prior clinical practice experience may be required based on the needs of the division.
