Sr. Manager of Technical Accounting

Position Summary

The Senior Manager of Technical Accounting will play a critical role in understanding and managing complex technical accounting issues, ensuring compliance with US GAAP and other relevant accounting standards. This individual will be more than a technical resource as they will act as a trusted business advisor, translating complex accounting guidance into practical, decision-ready insights for finance and operational leaders. This role requires someone who can bridge the gap between rigorous technical analysis and real-world business impact, ensuring stakeholders understand not just what the accounting says, but what it means for the business. The Senior Manager will work closely with the VP of Technical Accounting to ensure robust financial reporting, maintain the integrity of the company's accounting processes, and serve as a proactive partner to the broader organization. This role provides a strategic opportunity to shape financial operations and build credibility with internal and external stakeholders alike.

Responsibilities:

• Provide expert-level technical accounting guidance on complex issues including revenue recognition, leases, financial instruments, business combinations, and equity transactions – translating technical conclusions into clear, actionable implications for business partners.

• Stay up to date on US GAAP and other regulatory changes, ensuring the company’s compliance with new accounting standards, rules, and regulations, and proactively communicating the practical impact of these changes to non-accounting stakeholders.

• Prepare technical accounting memos and financial statement disclosures that are not only technically accurate but accessible and useful to business decision-makers.

• Partner with other teams (e.g., Legal, Commercial, IT, Operations, Controllership, FP&A) to assess and resolve complex accounting issues, acting as a thought partner in structuring deals and transactions rather than weighing in only after the fact.

• Serve as a go-to resource for business teams navigating the accounting implications of new contracts or initiatives, helping them understand accounting considerations early in the decision-making process.

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies related to technical accounting activities. Develop and implement best practices and policies in accounting and reporting processes.

• Engage with external auditors, ensuring smooth audits, addressing audit findings, and supporting year-end reporting processes.

• Assist in the professional development and training of finance and accounting staff on technical accounting matters with an emphasis on building the broader team’s ability to explain accounting concepts in business terms.

• Assist in special accounting projects as assigned.

Requirements:

• Must have a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field from an accredited college or university.

• CPA or equivalent professional certification is strongly preferred.

• Minimum of 6-9 years of relevant experience in technical accounting, audit, or related roles, preferably within a private equity-backed or publicly traded company.

• Strong knowledge of US GAAP, financial reporting standards, and accounting regulations.

• Strong understanding of technical accounting, particularly around service-based contracts and revenue recognition under ASC 606.

• Demonstrated ability to translate complex technical accounting guidance into practical, business-friendly language and recommendations. This role requires a consultative mindset, not just technical correctness.

• Track record of building trust and credibility with non-accounting stakeholders (e.g., Commercial, Operations, Legal) and influencing business decisions through sound accounting counsel.

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts to non-financial stakeholders and the ability to collaborate across multiple teams and interact with external stakeholders.

• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.

• Advanced proficiency in MS Office programs (Excel, Word).

• Exceptional attention to detail and analytical skills, balanced with sound business judgement and pragmatism.

• Ability to work independently and take initiative while being a team player.

• High level of integrity and ability to handle sensitive financial data with confidentiality.
