Job Title
MFT Engineer IIJob Description
So, who are we?
IG Group is a FTSE 100 fintech operating across five continents, serving over 1.3m customers and handling billions of dollars in transactions – built on scale, trust, and proof. We didn't pivot to innovation; it's how we've always operated. What that means for the people who work here is real: genuinely complex problems to solve, the technology and resources to tackle them properly, and the kind of scope that's rare in established businesses.
The bar is high – bring a curious and forward-thinking mindset and we'll give you the platform to define what comes next. Join us at IG – the future gets built here.
Your Team
The Managed File Transfer team sits within the Data Office and is responsible for delivering enterprise-wide managed file transfer services across IG Group. The team maintains the GoAnywhere platform, providing 24/7 support for business-critical file transfers that enable secure data exchange between internal systems, external partners, and regulatory bodies across our global operations.
Your role in the Team’s Success
This role exists to keep IG’s business-critical file transfer services running securely and reliably across the group. As MFT Engineer II, you’ll be a senior technical contributor to the GoAnywhere platform, owning complex workflow design and troubleshooting, driving platform improvements, and acting as an escalation point for the wider team while mentoring more junior engineers.
What you’ll do
Ability to solve complex GoAnywhere MFT incidents, driving root cause analysis and permanent fixes for recurring or high-impact issues.
Lead the design, build, and review of file transfer workflows and integrations, ensuring solutions meet performance, security, and scalability requirements.
Own platform health end-to-end: capacity planning, upgrade and patching strategy, high-availability configuration, and disaster recovery testing for the GoAnywhere estate.
Define and evolve MFT standards, runbooks, and best practices, and hold application teams and vendors accountable to them.
Manage the full lifecycle of security configurations — PGP/GPG keys, SSH keys, SSL/TLS certificates, and access controls — including audits and remediation for compliance frameworks (e.g. PwC/SOX-style controls).
Partner directly with application teams, architects, and external vendors (e.g. HANDD, Fortra) to design efficient, resilient file transfer solutions and to negotiate licensing, support, and upgrade paths.
Contribute to and improve monitoring and observability (e.g. CheckMK, Grafana, Power BI) to enable proactive issue detection rather than reactive firefighting.
Provide 24/7 operational support for the GoAnywhere platform as a senior responder, including leading major incident calls and post-incident reviews.
Automate recurring operational tasks and build tooling to reduce manual effort across the team
What you’ll need for this role
4–7 years’ hands-on experience with GoAnywhere MFT or a similar enterprise managed file transfer solution (e.g. IBM Sterling, MOVEit, Axway), including at least 1–2 years in a senior or lead technical capacity.
Deep technical expertise in file transfer protocols (FTP, SFTP, FTPS, AS2, HTTP/HTTPS), security technologies (PGP/GPG encryption, SSH keys, SSL/TLS), and data formats (XML, JSON).
Proven cross-platform administration expertise across Unix/Linux environments, including advanced shell scripting, command-line proficiency, and exposure to Windows environments.
Strong scripting and automation capability using Python, Shell (bash/ksh), or PowerShell, with a track record of building tools or automations that materially improved operational efficiency.
Demonstrated ability to diagnose and resolve complex, ambiguous production issues under pressure, including deep-dive analysis of logs, memory, and connection-level behaviour.
Experience managing vendor relationships (licensing, support escalations, upgrade planning) with MFT platform vendors or resellers.
Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with experience presenting technical status and risk to non-technical stakeholders (e.g. management, audit, compliance).
Proven ability to provide technical mentorship and knowledge transfer to junior (MFT Engineer I) team members, including reviewing their work and supporting their development.
Desirable
Experience working in a fintech, financial services, or similarly regulated industry.
Experience working in a global, follow-the-sun operational support model.
Exposure to cloud platforms (e.g. GCP, AWS, Azure) and hybrid on-prem/cloud MFT connectivity.
Familiarity with compliance/audit processes (e.g. PwC, SOX) as they relate to MFT security controls.
