Automation Tester in Java

We are looking for an experiencedAutomation Tester in Java to join our team in Quito.

In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and executing automated testing strategies across frontend and backend systems. You will play a key part in ensuring software quality by applying modern testing practices, automation frameworks, and performance and security testing techniques, while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams in an agile environment.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement test strategies, test plans, and acceptance criteria using BDD approaches
• Develop and maintain automated test scripts for functional and non-functional testing, covering both frontend (web, mobile) and backend (services)
• Execute performance testing and interpret results to identify bottlenecks and areas for improvement
• Manage test cases and defects using test management tools such as Jira and X-Ray
• Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and maintain version control of test code
• Perform data validation through queries against relational databases
• Apply data analytics to track and report on quality metrics
• Contribute to shift-left and shift-right testing practices to improve overall quality
• Actively participate in meetings, reviews, and agile ceremonies, communicating progress and blockers effectively

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in test automation
• Solid understanding of testing processes and types (ISTQB Foundation Level / Agile Tester)
• Experience with test management tools (Jira, X-Ray)
• Proficiency in test automation frameworks such as SerenityBDD, ScreenPlay, Gherkin-Cucumber, and Karate
• Strong experience with functional and non-functional test automation tools
• Hands-on experience creating automated test scripts for frontend and backend systems
• Experience with performance testing tools such as JMeter or K6, including results interpretation
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps) and source code repositories (Git)
• Working knowledge of relational databases (SQL, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL) and data validation for testing
• Familiarity with data analytics applied to quality metrics
• Understanding of software engineering best practices: SOLID principles, Clean Code, Refactoring, DRY, DAMP, etc.
• Strong knowledge of GenAI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Windsurf)
• Experience with agile methodologies and frameworks (Scrum, Kanban)
• Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to explain technical work to different audiences
• A collaborative mindset with the ability to adapt to different working styles and contribute to a positive team environment

Nice to have

• Experience with security testing and tools such as OWASP ZAP, including the creation of automated security test scripts
• Experience managing automation pipelines
• Knowledge of ITIL v4
• AI certifications (preferably in Copilot; optionally Claude, Gemini, GPT, Grok, or similar)
• Experience with AI-based test execution agents and AI-assisted development
