Automation Tester in Java

We are seeking a seasonedAutomation Tester in Java to become part of our team in Quito.

In this position, you will take ownership of designing, building, and running automated testing strategies across both frontend and backend systems. You will serve a vital role in safeguarding software quality by leveraging modern testing practices, automation frameworks, as well as performance and security testing methods, while partnering closely with cross-functional teams in an agile setting.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement test strategies, test plans, and acceptance criteria through BDD approaches
• Develop and maintain automated test scripts for functional and non-functional testing, spanning both frontend (web, mobile) and backend (services)
• Run performance testing and analyze results to pinpoint bottlenecks and opportunities for improvement
• Handle test cases and defects via test management tools like Jira and X-Ray
• Incorporate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines and uphold version control of test code
• Conduct data validation through queries against relational databases
• Leverage data analytics to monitor and report on quality metrics
• Support shift-left and shift-right testing practices to enhance overall quality
• Engage actively in meetings, reviews, and agile ceremonies, sharing progress and blockers effectively

Requirements

• 3+ years of experience in test automation
• Understanding of testing processes and types (ISTQB Foundation Level / Agile Tester)
• Background in test management tools (Jira, X-Ray)
• Proficiency in test automation frameworks like SerenityBDD, ScreenPlay, Gherkin-Cucumber, and Karate
• Expertise in functional and non-functional test automation tools
• Showcase of hands-on experience building automated test scripts for frontend and backend systems
• Skills in performance testing tools such as JMeter or K6, including results interpretation
• Knowledge of CI/CD tools (Azure DevOps) and source code repositories (Git)
• Competency in relational databases (SQL, Oracle, DB2, PostgreSQL) and data validation for testing
• Familiarity with data analytics applied to quality metrics
• Understanding of software engineering best practices: SOLID principles, Clean Code, Refactoring, DRY, DAMP, etc
• Proficiency in GenAI tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Windsurf)
• Qualifications in agile methodologies and frameworks (Scrum, Kanban)
• Capability to communicate and negotiate effectively, explaining technical work to varied audiences
• Flexibility to use a collaborative mindset, adapting to different working styles and contributing to a positive team environment

Nice to have

• Background in security testing and tools like OWASP ZAP, including the development of automated security test scripts
• Skills in managing automation pipelines
• Knowledge of ITIL v4
• Qualifications in AI (preferably Copilot; optionally Claude, Gemini, GPT, Grok, or similar)
• Familiarity with AI-based test execution agents and AI-assisted development
