Position Summary

TheSenior Laboratory Operations Specialist is responsible for supporting and enhancing laboratory operations and Laboratory Information System (LIS) products and services, analyzing data to inform business decisions, and identifying solutions to meet operational and business needs. This role serves as a key communication link betweenLaboratory Operations, IT, and other business stakeholders to ensure requirements and processes effectively support laboratory operations.

Responsibilities

• Elicits, analyzes, specifies, and validates the business needs of customers and end users.
• Maintains knowledge of laboratory safety procedures for biohazards and chemicals, as well as quality control procedures and regulations.
• Understands laboratory operations protocols and executes responsibilities with strong attention to detail.
• Drives results through service, quality, and continuous improvement by ensuring procedures and processes are in place that lead to the delivery of quality results and continually reassessing their effectiveness.
• Trains incoming Laboratory Operations Specialists by following established SOPs and operational procedures.
• Conducts interviews to gather customer requirements through workshops, site visits, workflow storyboards, use cases, scenarios, and other methods.
• Identifies and establishes the scope and parameters of requirements analysis on a project-by-project basis to define project impact, outcome criteria, and metrics.
• Works with stakeholders and project teams to prioritize collected requirements.
• Researches, reviews, and analyzes the effectiveness and efficiency of existing requirements-gathering processes and develops strategies for enhancing or further leveraging these processes.
• Analyzes and verifies requirements for completeness, consistency, comprehensibility, feasibility, and conformity to standards.
• Develops and utilizes standard templates to accurately and concisely write requirements specifications.
• Translates conceptual customer requirements into functional requirements in a clear manner that is comprehensible to developers and project teams.
• Creates process models, specifications, diagrams, and charts to provide direction to developers and/or project teams.
• Develops and conducts peer reviews of business requirements to ensure required specifications are interpreted correctly.
• Assists with the interpretation of customer requirements into feasible options and communicates these back to business stakeholders.
• Manages and tracks the status of requirements throughout the project lifecycle and enforces or redefines requirements as necessary.
• Communicates changes, enhancements, and modifications to business requirements verbally or through written documentation to project managers, sponsors, and other stakeholders to ensure issues and solutions are understood.

Qualifications

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
• Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Understanding of computer languages used within databases.
• Understanding of database design and construction.
• Strong understanding of laboratory operations and Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).

Education and Experience

• 5+ years of laboratory operations leadership experience.
• At least three years of experience in data processing, including at least two years of experience with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
