At Sonos we want to create the ultimate listening experience for our customers and know that it starts by listening to each other. As part of the Sonos team, you’ll collaborate with people of all styles, skill sets, and backgrounds to realize our vision while fostering a community where everyone feels included and empowered to do the best work of their lives.

We are looking for an engineer to join the Sonos Audio Systems team, based in China around the Shenzhen area. As an Audio Systems Realisation Engineer, you will be the team’s on-the-ground presence in the region, supporting multiple programmes, working closely with our manufacturing partners and helping products move smoothly from concept through to mass production.

You will bring a proven track record in audio system design, testing and measurement, with specific experience of headphone and loudspeaker products. The primary focus of this role is realisation, ensuring the intent of the audio design is achieved at every build phase. In-depth knowledge of system design and development will be essential, as the work spans the interfaces between hardware and software and calls for a multidisciplinary approach across acoustics, electronics, DSP and software.

This is a high-impact role for an engineer who enjoys hands-on problem solving, communicates well across cultures and disciplines, and wants to help shape how Audio Systems works with manufacturing partners and vendors.

What You’ll Do

  • Act as the Audio Systems team’s technical point of contact for manufacturing partners, supporting them day to day and through each build phase
  • Diagnose and root-cause complex issues that span acoustics, electronics, DSP, software and test systems, and work with the right teams on resolutions
  • Help speed up issue resolution by handling problems locally and in real time
  • Support the development, set-up and improvement of production line and validation test systems alongside test and validation teams
  • Perform and interpret audio measurements in the electrical and acoustic domains
  • Build tools, scripts and test content as appropriate to support audio testing during development and manufacture
  • Support programmes from exploration through to mass production, including investigating line issues and unit-to-unit variation
  • Contribute to audio design work where appropriate, including evaluating hardware and helping to define system and test requirements
  • Share findings and best practice, and communicate clearly with Audio Systems colleagues across time zones

Requirements

Core

  • An undergraduate or postgraduate degree in acoustics or a related field
  • A minimum of 7 years of audio product development experience in consumer electronics, with direct experience in a systems, realisation or equivalent cross-functional role
  • Hands-on experience with headphones and loudspeakers (or other wearable audio products) and a strong grasp of the idiosyncrasies and issues specific to them
  • Proven track record supporting products from exploration through to mass production, including time on a manufacturing line
  • Strong test and measurement expertise across electronic and acoustic domains, with the ability to diagnose issues that cross hardware, software and DSP
  • Solid understanding of digital signal processing fundamentals
  • Proficiency building tools for data analysis, test automation and system simulation
  • Deep knowledge of MATLAB
  • Experience manipulating physical prototypes to achieve accurate acoustic results
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly to cross-functional and partner teams
  • Fluent Mandarin (spoken and written) for effective collaboration with manufacturing partners
  • Willingness to travel within China and overseas as project needs require

Preferred

  • Experience with Klippel
  • Software programming experience
  • Knowledge of Python
  • Familiarity with simulation software such as COMSOL

Your profile will be reviewed and you'll hear from us once we have an update. At Sonos we take the time to hire right and appreciate your patience.
